NEUS Projects

So I don't know if this is exactly an appropriate place to put this, but it is a suggestion so I'm gonna put it here.

So for a while there's been talk of a fish race. Almost everyone's been clamoring for it, although we know it likely won't come in the nearby future. I myself also want a fish race, whether it be Selachii or something Dev himself makes, or... Whatever. But there's a bit of a problem with everyone's discussion of it. I don't really get listened to a lot when I mention this, so here's why this post exists.
People want the race to be entirely based around Axolotls. This is a bad idea.

The concept isn't bad and when I say that I don't mean that the race'll be OP or anything, but the issue will be with character creation.

I know these are pleb territory since I just googled generic terms, but my point stands.
And when I mentioned this last time in OOC someone mentioned Mudkips for playbys (hence topic name). All I have to say, really... Do you really want 50 mudkip gijinkas running around?
There is little to know portrait material for those who like to have portraits as close to their actual characters (I.E., people who would rather have a picture with a fox tail/ears for their Redtail instead of a human with a part of the profile that says they're there.) and most of the decent-ish results go into semi-furry territory. Aliening people who can't draw (nor possibly photoshop) out of a portrait. But to my suggestion...
If we're really going to add a fish race someday, can we make them like Eternia does (as much as I hate saying that) and have one race with multiple subsections? I feel like it would be smarter to have one section of the race based on Axolotls, then maybe one for Sharks, Normal Fish (maybe these would be the most common?), or maybe even Walruses if we wanna generalize it down to just sea-faring animals. It'll take a bit more icons to be added to the racial selection (which really isn't an issue to code since we have the tail and horn variations) which I'm sure we could find someone to sprite if Dev doesn't want to.

I just wanted to have this out here, maybe for reference or see if there's something better we can do... I just remember that the best place to post stuff like this is the forums. So I'm doing it.

I'm not Dev, but correct me on this if I'm wrong(or right) but isn't he sticking to strictly humanoid races? Wouldn't that mess up the Dev-Master Plan? Granted I don't mind a seafolk race we're due for one, but maybe half-fish people who are from mermaids gods or were blessed by Kraken *shrugs*

Dev doesn't want to add non-humanoids due to furries, I was told. That was the entire point though, that we should probably expand the types due to portraits being mostly non-humanoids.
The last part might've been a good way of pushing them into lore, though.

I've never had this problem, so I must be doing something wrong.

I see more generic catgirl pictures than normal people, let alone furries.

This is off topic, seeing as this is about the fish race, but here's a short answer anyways.
1. It's a problem for some and not for others.
2. There's a lot of generic pictures on SL2. Why not help them find better ones if they're up for it? Some people don't know if it's generic or not and I'm sure they'd appreciate the help from a veteran.
3. There have been furry portraits, but they get shut down fast.
You can take this somewhere that isn't a thread that's purpose was diverse fish race, if you really wanna talk about it.

You were way off the mark, Soapy.

1) What she meant was that you can help out others who has generic fucking profile pics as long as their up to it(a more recent example is when I helped out the Uncanny Huntress find a new playby, took fucking forever, but it worked in the end)

2) This is mainly about the inclusion of the fish race, that may or may not be done, but what she's getting at is that if they are Axoloti there will be no real variety, so to speak. there would just be the one(or two) icons w/ clothing overlays hence why she's basically stating that if this race does come in more creativity for the players icon-wise as well as playby wise because no one wants to see borderline porn all over SL2...again.

I'm pretty sure that the original idea was NOT to make fish-people axolotls.
Too non-humanoid. Won't they just be normal looking people with webbed fingers and funny ears or something? This thread seems pointless.

Everytime I saw it come up in OOC everyone talks about it being an Axolotl race. I made the thread because trying to discuss stuff like that in OOC had always ended up terrible and it was better to have put it in a thread /w a clear message than me going "no guys it's a bad idea for x reason" just like that. I meant to make the entire thing earlier, but my memory sure ain't the best.
Maybe it is pointless, but I assumed it'd be better this way and more likely for Dev to see it if he did even consider making like that. If I'm in the wrong I'll admit that, but it doesn't seem like this was a 100% pure shitpost topic with no point.
In fact, hell, I'll repeat the point if it helps. If there's going to be a fish race, it shouldn't revolve around one particular fish with odd features to be more friendly to those who can't make their own portraits, and it would probably be more fun to make it more diverse and not have it just be a generic fish race.
