Full Version: Character Concepts Requiring Approval (READ ME)
You're currently viewing a stripped down version of our content. View the full version with proper formatting.
This topic is meant to give you a run down for things that require submitting an application on this forum for GM approval. Note that just because something is listed here does not mean that you're unlikely to get approved, or that it is being heavily policed - it is simply to make sure the player base and the GM team is on the same page, as these things can cause problems if left unchecked.

For more information on proper application format and what information you'll need to get approved, please check the main applications forum.

Character Creation Related
The following things require GM approval before you create your character, regardless of race:
  • Characters with an age of 13 years or less, or an age of 300 years or more. (This also applies if your character is, for example, a vampire or mechanation who -looks- if they're that young.)
  • Characters with a height at or below 4 feet 5 inches, or exceeding 7 feet tall.
  • Characters that are part of an established group in lore. (IE, Church Knights, the Agency, Guards.)
  • Characters that have a story element which does not have a lore basis or requires clarification. (IE, your character has a curse or magical disease.)
  • Obviously, any character concept which defies the character creation limitations defined in the server rules.
Character Ability Related
The following list are examples of things which require GM approval before you are allowed to include it as part of your roleplay. This list is not all inclusive. When in doubt, ask a GM.
  • Character abilities or powers not provided to them by their race. (IE, the ability to fly.)
  • Excessively unique interpretations of class/item/etc. skills or abilities. (IE, creating a Gundam because you're an Engineer.)
  • Creation of things not directly supported by the official lore. (IE, creating undead or other monsters, creating things such as vehicles or advanced devices.)
Regarding Application Privacy
We are adjusting our policy for character applications going forward.
  • We no longer allow applications to be passed through private channels, such as DMs or modmail - they must be posted in this forum.
  • You must be *specific* on what you are requesting approval for. Please see the updated application format for the 'Specific Request' section.
  • The GM who approves your application will be specific and concise about which parts they are approving.
  • Include a link or reference to a specific forum topic in your OOC notes if it's something you intend to use regularly in RP.

The reasons for this are as follows;
  • Applications being discussed in private caused a great deal of confusion and clutter for GM organization.
  • Some applications and their approved abilities/etc were having their interpretations stretched.
  • It was frequent that characters with approved abilities/backgrounds, when referenced or used in RP, had modmails sent about them by concerned/confused players. We are trying to reduce that redundancy by making all of this public information.

Regarding spoilers or metagaming;
  • In the event that you want to keep some information private, you may request a GM to contact you in your application so that you can share this information.
  • Note that this only applies to lore or background information; the character and the specific application requests must be listed publicly. (IE, if your character is apping for the ability to grow magic claws, your forum post must say so, and if approved by a GM, they will specifically reference that ability.)
Applications Regarding Inventions
If you want to apply for an invention, we have certain guidelines for things that will not be accepted.
  • Magitech is preferred over things that utilize more traditional technology.
  • Inventions which invalidate certain roles won't be considered. IE, inventions that would make couriers or messenger birds pointless.
  • Flight machines won't be considered.
  • Trains/cars/etc won't be considered.
  • No plastics.
  • No finely tuned machinery, such as those requiring intricate or complex parts, like bicycle chains or spokes.
  • Long range communication devices won't be considered. No telephones, no magical crystal ball telephones, etc.
  • No digital displays. IE, things like monitors, digital watch faces, etc.
  • No electronic devices. IE, no mp3 players, no Nintendo Switches, no electric stoves, no fans.
  • No bicycles. No tricycles. No cycles of any kind which involve more than one wheel.
  • No synthesized materials, such as tire rubber, which are determined to be too modern. (Simple alloyed metals are excluded.)
  • No refrigerators or other inventions that would significantly increase the mobility and lifespan of food items. (Small, non-mobile chilled boxes are excluded.)
  • No explosives or chemical weapons beyond the capability of what has already been established. IE, no super bombs, no nukes, no mustard gas, no napalm.
  • No complex or highly advanced medicines.
  • No automated mass production. No machines that enable manual large scale mass production. (IE, more primitive versions of printing presses are okay.)
Furthermore, your invention requires some additional details that are considered;
  • Inspiration for the invention. What made your character come up with this idea?
  • How the invention works. What does it do, how does it do it, what are its limitations?
  • Existing technology. What within the established lore supports the invention existing as you have described?
  • Development time. How long have you been working on this IC? Do you have logs or screenshots supporting your claim?
Please note that we consider other factors for inventions as well, such as the flavor of the setting. Nothing is guaranteed to be approved.
