[Races] Racial Levels - Ranylyn - 01-07-2015 This was something I thought up while lamenting that Silvermists sucks on a low Vit vampire, Fire Breath gets more expensive for Hyattr even if you're perfectly content with it being weaker, and Wyverntouched self poisoning viability is completely dependant on how much Vit you have. I propose having "Race Levels" that you accumulate SP for, and basically a class-like set of skills for races. This would let you determine how to allot your points instead of things being forced to scale or remain stagnant. For example, Zerans COULD get several weaker effects as they do now, or have options for other ways to represent their crown of heaven and sensitivity to focus, like a minor racial FP regen, instead. A wyverntouched could choose to keep their poison level low if they just want to self bite for a minor boost without murdering themselves if they ended up getting insane vit. A hyattr could have Channel Magic not be bad if they don't have bonuses to their Vit gains. Glykin could tweak their regeneration ability to not be dependant on their max HP, meaning non tank Glykins don't have terrible regen. A papillion could increase the odds of something in PVE going for their illusions instead of them, etc. Basically, it would make things more varied, even, and fair rather than just "THIS RACE DOES THIS AND ONLY THIS, IF YOU DON'T HAVE THESE STATS, THIS RACE SUCKS." It would let people have more control over how they choose to progress their racial abilities rather than being forced to have things scale or stagnate. Re: [Races] Racial Levels - Rockabye - 01-07-2015 I think I sort of see what you're getting at, but this would be a lot easier to understand if it were organized with the skill template. Saying "races could do this or this" doesn't really give us a clear image without seeing the skills as they would be presented in the game itself. From what I understand it sounds interesting, but please expand on it a little more. Re: [Races] Racial Levels - Lolzytripd - 01-07-2015 how about at lvl 30 or 45 or something, races getting traits, that Evolve or change the mechanics of a racial ability. Re: [Races] Racial Levels - Rendar - 01-07-2015 Okay so. You know how Liches have that shit for its 'racial' traits? Yeah. Get rid of those. Instead add a seperate trait list. Some Liches might expand on other avenues, like transportation, life draining. Some might work on the fact that they are literally wet tissue paper, and make a mana shield. Some Zeran's aren't focus inclined. So while their counterparts may tack on more benefits for having max FP. These few Zeran focus on being able to get their max benefits, even when at say 80% FP. Some Doriad's focus on summoning plants to help protect them. Others focus on using it as an offensive tool. You can choose to get more benefits from them, possibly even gaining light resist for each one near, or you can just go "PLANTS ATTACK!" and get a longer immobilization on someone. It definitely adds character diversity. Re: [Races] Racial Levels - Lolzytripd - 01-07-2015 perhaps the hostile plants of a doriad would do ...earth damage? along with the root. Re: [Races] Racial Levels - Argonus - 01-07-2015 Why not just have traits that you can pick that upgrade your racials? Or simply have racials scale more with your level? Re: [Races] Racial Levels - Normal Username - 01-07-2015 "[url=http://www.neus-projects.net/viewtopic.php?p=3052#p3052 Wrote:Argonus » Tue Jan 06, 2015 7:21 pm[/url]"]Why not just have traits that you can pick that upgrade your racials? This, or maybe traits like dem liches. You spend a trait point or two for something that boosts your race(racial abilities). Re: [Races] Racial Levels - Ryu-Kazuki - 01-07-2015 "[url=http://neus-projects.net/viewtopic.php?p=3052#p3052 Wrote:Argonus » Tue Jan 06, 2015 10:21 pm[/url]"]Why not just have traits that you can pick that upgrade your racials? Or simply have racials scale more with your level? Because not every race has traits, and even when we've suggested some to make some lackluster races better, it got ignored. Plus, not every race even gets decent starting racials to begin with. Zerans - Don't get me started. Lupine - Immunity to Blind and Stat increases when they lose HP, very miniscule stat increases, and their other Kaelensian counterparts get more abilities that are also better than theirs. Liches - Talk to Sderg on that subject. Point being, a lot of races currently are pretty shitty due to their current skills or lack thereof, so you can't really upgrade what's either set in stone (like Blind Immunity), or what doesn't exist. Sure you can upgrade to something a little better, but I'm not going to waste a trait point on something I don't think is even remotely worthwhile. Races need and overhaul in skills to be more balanced. (How 'bout dem hoomans that nobody wants to play?) Re: [Races] Racial Levels - KhalidtheGrey - 01-08-2015 I agree with Ryu here, those upgraded and viable racials shouldn't require a trait tax, some people need every trait they can get while they are leveling up. Forcing them to make even harder choices about 'Hmmm,,, should I take sub attack, die hard, quick feet, racial upgrade A, or racial upgrade B.' Re: [Races] Racial Levels - MegaBlues - 01-08-2015 Races should not be mini-classes. Racials should be small, minimally effective bonuses, which rarely effect battles. Even Kalestesia(sp) being immune to blind is the kind of overly strong, invasive racials that shouldn't exist. |
