Wretched Oil - MegaBlues - 02-18-2015

Magaisendo has extreme damage penalties at long ranges.

Lantern Bearer spells have damage and status infliction penalties at long ranges.

Why doesn't Wretched Oil have some sort of status infliction chance and damage penalty nerf at long ranges? People can still do 100+ damage with it from across the map, and inflict a status which steals 30+ HP per turn.

Re: Wretched Oil - Soapy - 02-18-2015

Yes.

Re: Wretched Oil - Slydria - 02-18-2015

I think I'd rather just have Wretched Oil's Range be set back to something more like a Lantern Bearer's spell only without the damage penalty, I think that'd be fair since it already has a fair amount of drawbacks.

80% WIL scaling, being fairly FP costly, having to deal with two sets of elemental resistances, etc.

Re: Wretched Oil - Rockabye - 02-18-2015

I don't think it needs a nerf at all. But maybe that's just me.

In comparision, the damage from Wretched Oil on the Jammer Epsilon was 145, in total.

2 smacks of 58 in the beginning then a smack of 29 from the poison. That rivaled a Magaisendo to the face in terms of damage. All that alongside a 171% chance to afflict them with poison which can end up being a debilitating and fatal status effect means that in almost every occasion in a PVP fight, I will always afflict you, and you will always take more damage from a wretched oil. I mean, if Wretched Oil is supposed to do as much damage as a point-blank Magaisendo from anywhere on the screen, that's cool. It shouldn't though.

Re: Wretched Oil - Rockabye - 02-18-2015

My Hexer doesn't do anywhere near that amount of damage with a Wretched Oil. And while it can be strong on monsters, my Wretched Oils already tend to do close to 0 on actual players, and with poor infliction chance. With over 60 WIL. I don't think your stats are the average at all, so I would appreciate you not using a 100+ Will mage as an example for standard Hexer damage.

Re: Wretched Oil - Rendar - 02-18-2015

B-but my WIL is only 77 base.

Also even with..

95 WIL vs 75 WIL (Which is pretty standard for a mage with mods)

76 WIL scaling vs 60 WIL scaling.

That's a damage difference of 16, or 8 damage per hit.

If you take 8 damage off of each of those, it's still a lot. Also consider the fact that my tome is. You know. 21 power instead of 25-29. Which means that I'm at a disadvantage for that tome meta-game.

If your Wretched Oil is dealing close to 0 damage on actual players, their WIL is high or they're stacking resistance because dat mage game 2 stronk. I can deal atleast 60 damage with it to people most of the time. I know my stats aren't 'average' but it's still possible.

Re: Wretched Oil - Ranylyn - 02-18-2015

"ONLY" 77 base? You do realise that most races can't even physically manage that, right?

Furthermore, you do realize that even then, not everyone will level as an Evoker/GS if they intend on using Hexer, since Hexer has better def/res growths which makes applying those curses that require you to get hit much easier to use, right?

If Wretched Oil is to be nerfed, simply give it a cap rather than mess with the scaling. My hexers have already been shat on enough as is for having the gall to not level as an Evoker/GS with the ailment chance nerf, and Wretched Oil itself generally does less than the poison damage I use it to inflict. Don't go 100% invalidating non min/maxed builds for raw offenive output, thanks.

Re: Wretched Oil - Lolzytripd - 02-18-2015

The reason your damage was so high was jammer epsilon has no resists, however, playes do, and the damage is split two types,

A void assassin with some earth resist could likely get it into the 0s

wraith guard can proc on both the splits aswell.

Guard is also useful against split damage.

also if you can resist both damage types, in pvp thats -2m to the evoker so if their first move is wretched oil, they now have 2m left.

Re: Wretched Oil - Sawrock - 02-18-2015

77 base is near the cap of 80. That's not only. I also have over 60 will (61-around-ish, which should not be considered bad), and I do around 6 to 26 damage total on each player with Wretched Oil.
