Either give all hexer spells a dual typing where they count as Hugglords+other element type spell or just count as huggs.
I think everyone would prefer rotwood actually synergizing with the dark mage more than elemental gi.

Just make it "Huggessoan, or Hexer spells" for a quick-fix.
