Not sure if it is even a bug, but I remember back then to have needed to stand next to things being harvested.
right now you can click it from afar and harvest a fram, that is being used to steal stuff from peoples farms while hiding. Its impossible to tell who takes it either.
So if its not a bug, I would suggest being in 1 tile range of plants to harvest them.

Crops also need to display an lemote of someone actually doing the deed, like how prayers do, but, well, lemote.
There's been a lot of problems with people sneakily and OOCly stealing crops.
