Lore Questions: July 2021

Homunculi. It's said that they don't age up. So what's the fate of loli catgirl Homunculi? Will they stay like that forever?

I had in mind that "Homunculi beyond their creation formula is not an exact science and is still being developed/studied", so is it too far-fetched to have a Homunculi grow up from an infant to an adult over a natural span of time?

1.) Since Reapers have no language of their own, what is their dominant language?
a.) Is it an early form of that language? (Ie. proto-common, proto-alstalsian)
b.) ((Can it be a language of their own?))

2.) Aside from Reapers and wandering souls, what are the other "inhabitants" that might prowl Lazarus?

3.) Do spirits come from souls or are they unrelated to souls entirely?

Alright, time for a question on children.

In the case of two parents being of different races, it's been said that only one race will be dominate. While it's safe to assume that identical twins would be of the same inherited race because of genetics, but how about in the case of fraternal twins? If let's say a Felidae and Lupine were to have offspring and had fraternal twins, could the children be of a different parent's race, or would they both be either Felidae OR Lupine?

If so, what would be the effects/side-effects, if any?

1) Generally, no, this is not a practice that the Church would likely do, even if they could.
2) There are certain arcane tattoos that could be used, similar to tattoos that are used to enhance spells, there are ones that could be deliberately made to interfere with spellcasting in general, and it would be possible to only influence Mercana specifically.

As for side-effects, such things can also interfere with the application of the magic it affects from outside sources. IE, mercana might have trouble affecting the person with the tattoo.

Does Oniga have any official 'Kensei' / swordsmanship schools?
Are there any specific places Onigans go to pray to spirits like Seiryuu and Byakko? Like Shrines or the etc.
Is the Inn somewhat like... a 'centerpiece' or such for Oniga? Given that it's the largest place in the city...
How popular is gambling in Oniga? Since it's the only place with a casino.
Does Oniga have the Salamander Structure, or something similar? Or do they just find power / 'electricity' through other means?

1) Yes, it is fairly common, especially with Oniga's reliance on mercenary work much of the time.
2) There are small shrines or statues with them. Many of the old places of worship are no longer usable due to the curse.
3) I suppose? Not sure what you mean exactly. It is a centerpiece of the map in-game, at least.
4) About as popular as anywhere else. People have to keep themselves entertained somehow.
5) It does, though it is uncommon to see it used in most places, due to the distrust of magic Oniga has.

What sort of news wouldn't fly in Sigrogana if distributed by a newspaper of some sort?

What kind of punishment would there be for spreading potential misinformation or information that Sigrogana disapproves of being in a news source?

1) Generally governments have the ability to shut down things of this nature. You would also need official permission (from the local authority, land owner, or lord) to start a business of this nature.
2) Anything publishing classified or secret information, or things that could be seen as suggesting action against a certain group or individual (such as violence, etc.)
3) Depends on the severity, anywhere from having permission to do so revoked, to being jailed.

If she's commonly depicted in artwork, what are some details or symbolic objects or insignia she might be depicted with?

1) Generally Mercala herself is not often depicted, because the appearance of The Voice varies (as she moves between vessels).
2) Most commonly, halos, crosses, and streaks of light. The halo itself is the most common and noteworthy.

We are aware of Stage One (full body ache, bruising, scarring, cracks, etc.), and Stage Two (lacerations and potentiality for fatality/loss of limbs), but are there other stages beyond that? If so, are they demarcated like the other stages with numbers, or any other way?

1) Since void poisoning is not particularly well understood, I imagine it would only be broken down into the stages of 'early' or stage one, 'serious' or stage two, and anything worse than stage two would just be understood as 'beyond' stage two in severity.

(07-23-2021, 11:27 PM)chimeranyx Wrote: What exactly goes into the maintenance of a Homunculi? Is it different for different types of homunculi? Could a homunculi do it themself, or would they need help?

1) It is different for each type of homunculi. In general, though, there are two types of maintenance for beings with artificial bodies; material replacement and structural repair.

Material replacement involves re-fusing the artificial body with certain things it may have expended, similar to how non-artifical life does this by absorbing nutrients through food. Homunculi, in most cases, can do this the same way, but some magical materials used in their bodies may not be found in food and require special supplements.

Structural repair involves fixing damage or wear on the homunculi's shell/vessel. This can be done through replacing parts of the body wholesale, or magically fusing/altering the specific parts. This is only really necessary for instances where the homunculi is seriously damaged, as their bodies are capable of healing injuries naturally.

2) A homunculi could do it themselves, in theory. However, they will likely not do nearly as good of a job as the mage who created them (and therefore knows the precise details of the homunculi, and is very familiar with the maintenance thereof). It would be very difficult for them to do serious structural repair on their own body, however; that usually needs someone else to be done properly.

Sure.

1) Probably not. I imagine that would require the kind of precise, extensive temperature control that is not feasible currently.

1) Doriads breathe like normal mortal races.

1) Homunculi do not age, generally.
2) This is possible, however it would require something about their creation or maintenance to be the influence. (IE, the mage would gradually modify the shell over time, or the homunculi would be capable of self-change, such as a chimera growing larger over time as it consumed other creatures.)

1) The language that Reapers use and know in Darkside is a slightly more antiquated version of common. (IE, thy and thou for your and you. I say slightly because this sort of dialect is still very much used in certain parts of the world.)
2) Nothing else. Most living creatures do not go near Lazarus or Darkside.
3) From the lore.txt (though I often use the terms liberally, in part because spiritualism is very murky and mysterious):
- (Difference between souls and spirits?) Spirits are the things which involve the spiritualism talent. They are a minor entity that have lost all sense of identity over time and are mostly based on emotion. Souls are classified as such because they have not lost this quality.
