Or if your opponent is over their battle weight!

Perhaps as some sort of an "Armor rating" thing in description showing unarmored/light/heavy? (Mainly because icons need to get iconed, hard to get enough variation, etc.)

Can you elaborate a bit more on what you mean by that last part? I'll be updating the OP with everyone's suggestions.

That's a good idea.

I personally like the damage numbers, because it lets you:

1. Tell someone's relative power. After all, it should be easy to tell if the Fir just used was from a level 1 Shaitan or a level 60 Lich.
2. See a difference between vitality and defense. While not as easy, I'd like to be able to tell if someone is able to ignore their wounds and keep fighting, or simply be unphased by an attack.

But that's just me.

Re: RP-Friendly Combat System - Rendar - 12-22-2014

Armor Ratings would totally be cool. Especially if how encumbered your opponent is during battle is displayed. It'd make combat more fun instead of going, "Are.. they wearing 150 pounds of stuff to heavy tackle me or.. are they actually going to shoot me instead of spamming heavy tackle..?"

On the last part, I just want. Say. "This person looks to be able to carry their weight in battle just fine!"

"This person seems to be weighed down a bit but doing just fine!"

"This person is weighed down so much by their gear they shouldn't even be able to move properly..."

The problem with this is that different people have different carrying limits. What would weigh you down may not weigh them down, or vice-versa. You wouldn't be able to know whether they should be weighed down unless you know their max BW itself... which you won't. Even if they were weighed down, it would make more sense to just assume that they aren't as fast as they actually are.

I'm going to go ahead and add in armor ratings to the OP, and if you still insist on this I'll throw it up there too.

Re: RP-Friendly Combat System - Sarinpa1 - 12-22-2014

You can tell if a person is struggling with something or not, even if you do not know the limits of their strenght. (IRL)

If they're dramatically over-encumbered, yes. But SL's world is full of more people like Rock Lee, who dash around at the speed of sound with ridiculously heavy weights on their legs.

Either way, it's been placed in the OP now.

Re: RP-Friendly Combat System - Sarinpa1 - 12-22-2014

Well, it's true that the display is much less necesary than the armor rating.
Okay.

Re: RP-Friendly Combat System - Maikito - 12-22-2014

I'm okay with this idea. Sounds reasonable for a nifty roleplay supporting feature. Though I would suggest a few things:

Hit/Crit - What you basically said for hit is fine. I also wouldn't mind SL1's dodge, and injury messages back in place of Hit rating and Dodge. Crit, however, I feel should be just be displayed as normal. Reason being is it's too -broad- of a concept from an IC perspective. On one hand, you could view it as the chance to hit an enemies weak point. On the other hand, it could be just a point where your character just is able to really lay their weapon into the opponent just in general. There's a variety of ways it could be interpreted, so unless you could fine a definitive way to describe and vaguely display it to the player, keep it the same. Damage itself? I wouldn't mind if that was removed from the initial targetting either.

Movement Range - Yes. Yes. 100% Yes. People normally wouldn't be able to tell initially off how quickly someone could get across the battlefield.

Level - I don't know why this isn't already hidden with the rest of the stats. I suggest it be replaced with some sort of "threat" level, like the dungeons have. "Puny-looking" for like Lvl 1-10 and 'Horrifically Imposing' for like 50-60. idk.

Sestuna - That, in particualy, I'm a bit uneasy about. The sword is magical, so there's no real way for you to gauge whether or not it's abilities are "beyond" the realm of reality.

Modifiers
Mechanation Traits: Mechs should have some sort of trait that allow them to see normally unseen statistics, maybe not all of them, but some of them at the very least.
General Traits: Traits to analyze an opponents range of movement after moving, their known skills, and other various things could also be introduced perhaps.
Hidden Statistics PvP Toggle - If none of the above are added, what Rendar suggests would be nice.
GM Powers - Should be able to circumvent all of these above mentioned features for the sake of stopping bug abusers. If bugs -do- arise.

EDIT:Armor Rating? Well, that I feel is also beyond just mere normal comprehension. Sure, a person can appear to be wearing no armor at all, but in reality they could be a lot more sturdy than they look, especially in a fantasy setting. The Defense stat dictates this.
