Gods are entities that came through The Void during The Enlightenment. They are massive, powerful beings that can shape desires, miracles, and bend the world with their power. Gods are varied in appearance, purpose, morals, and powers, with no two of them being the same. Many won over followers for their contributions during The Enlightenment, turning into patron deities, increasing their power through belief.

Being so different from each other, it was only a matter of time before they clashed, resulting in Heaven's Contention, a massive war between the Gods who wanted to own this new world and those who stood against them, which ultimately lead to many Gods being killed in the fight.

It is said that not all Gods participated in Heaven's Contention, and that not all Gods came through The Void during The Enlightenment.

The Enlightenment

The Enlightenment was an event where the Gods appeared in the world, through a massive portal that lead to The Void. The details of their manifestation is unclear, nor recorded, although some historians believe it was the work of demons. It is called 'the enlightenment' because it became the starting point of civilization; mortals, up to that point, were little more than nomads and savages, lacking any real intelligence or art, which the Gods taught to them.

Science, medicine, technology, the art of war, agriculture; all facets of society were taught, slowly, leading to a rapid development of villages, which would become kingdoms or empires. Mortals worshiped the gods for their gifts, and some, in turn, were given aspects of the God, essentially siring a new race.

Still, after a point, mortals were made to fend for themselves. Heaven's Contention, a war between the divine, would lead to the death of many Gods, as well as drive many others into hiding, and this did not change at its conclusion. Mortals have been left to their own devices for centuries, causing details and beliefs to fade from most.

Known Terrestrial Gods

Various Gods, whether intelligent or primal (Elemental Gods), whether inherent or novel, have existed since and before the long history of the world. Many of the known and even unknown Gods have either died during Heaven's Contention or have been in hiding ever since. Some of them are even speculated to be legends, myths, or entirely fabricated.

  • Zera, God of Domination ✟ (Speculated to have been reborn as Ereshkigal)
  • Ryart, The Gold Dragon ✟
  • Mercala, Goddess of Life (The only God confirmed and known to be alive)
  • Hyatt, Dragon God of Destruction ✟

Elemental Gods

Elemental Gods are a kind of terrestrial god that have existed since before The Enlightenment. Elemental Gods are more primal than calculating, not offering much in the way of intelligence, wisdom, or guidance. They are simply elemental forces that source certain elements.

  • Nairyf, The Original Fire Elemental ✟

The lists presented are non-exhaustive. There are many unknown Gods (such as the God of Love) or unconfirmed Gods in the world of Sigrogana, for not all have made their presence readily known, and not all of their influences have been recorded in the annals of history -- whether due to human error, or their own machinations.

Known Celestial Gods

Terrestrial Gods, however, were not the only kinds of Gods postulated to have existed on or in relation to the world of Sigrogana. Celestial Gods are also said to exist, far beyond the reaches of the planet; to most they are unknowable, and have always been there. Worship surrounding Celestial Gods is exceedingly rare and virtually unheard of due to their mythological status; despite this and their unknowable history, they are generally well-known regardless, by name and by elemental association.

Celestial Gods are, much like Terrestrial Gods, associated with elements. Although they do not have any direct impact on the elements, they can still provide a certain boost in power to those wishing to tap into their celestial yet distant power.
