I want to suggest that newly made floating swords Retain their upgrade level, material and enchantment.

For pre existing mercs I suggest being able to feed them another sword, to change them, feed them material kits to change material, feed them item quality items to grant that quality, feed them catalysts to  grant that enchantment. Also that their UL default to maxxed out.

also a few basic sword skills could please be given to them, Shinken and Side cut maybe.

Let's go further. A floating mob for EVERY weapon type. Fist, Sword, Dagger, Gun, Axe, Spear, Tome.

Honestly at that point it would make more sense as an actual class where you get to use a skill that turns your mainhand into a unit, and that unit has no momentum but you can move it once per turn for 0m and whenever you use a skill that can be used by that weapon type, the animated weapon uses it instead. The SWA, crit, etc, would all be based on your own stats, but any effects would be the unit doing it. So if you use sidecut, it moves the sword and slices etc. The weapon wouldn't be very tanky, and if defeated it would return to your hand but with a cooldown on the resummon and with a debuff to your personal attacks until it's off cooldown again.

To make it balanced, it should become inactive if it's further than 5 tiles from you, leaving you with bare fist only until you move closer or it dies. Make it a duelist promo with sword/spear/axe support and little to no defenses compared to its brethren.
