An issue with mages
#11
The issue isn't really hsdw, its that even without it, theres almost nothing you can do to stop a mage from finishing their invocation.

Actually no, HSDW creates a massive threat range for other players, that alone deserves main class I think.

The only time I have honestly seen the invocation range become an issue is with Vydel. People usually just run away from anyone they see with Charge Mind + High Speed Divine Words up, unless they have a Cat Mask/Rogue... or they're perfectly sure they can tank it just because they pack magic DR stacking. Admittedly, there seems to be little escape from them when you activate Geist Schritt... but I think that one is an entirely different issue made by Boxer, rather than Evoker.

However, I have to agree with Lolzy here - not being able to break the invocation at all is an issue. It makes Devocation be forgotten with ease, so I do think Words of Power should cap at some point.

I like the ideas suggested in OP. HSDW is well deserved as MC only skill, a way to actually break invocations would be great aswell, to allow some counterplay atleast.

I was thinking for a while if even Auto-enchant should be MC only, so mage has some appeal as main-class, but I am unsure about that. I think if the ideas of OP are taken in it's probably not needed aswell.

I think nerfing Evoker right now is not that great of an idea- Making HSDW mainclass only really dents a bunch of builds. Yeah, it can be -pretty- strong, but I don't see it being so different from several other things that aren't main class. The High speed divine Words can also be avoided pretty easily, either by making silence attempts or by running away.

That said, as Lolzy and Fern have said, it's really a strange thing that invocations are basically non-breakable now. This should probably be fixed.

I'm not sure about invocations being breakable. I've never liked them being breakable in the first place due to the upfront momentum and FP requirements along with the (usual) attack forecasting. Silence is already a mechanic, and if invocations are made easier to break, they need to be given the effect and range to make casting them both possible and worth the risk.

Nah, not Auto Enchant, Shujin. Mages alone have or show no problem with their spells to balance (and even more now that Explosion got its well-deserved nerf), the problems lie on the classes above which further enhance their power.

But even through this, I still think Hexer should be priority. Eff that cansor.
