kensei sp sink

theres a total of 99 spendable points in kensei, I'm not necro posting the old thread I brought this up in.

Arbalest which is a similarly defined niche class has 68 spendable points.

I feel the major issue with kensei is that theres too much passive bloat in this class.

you need to spend 18points in innates before you can even start looking at slotted passives, 9 points for the ki's 3 points for yomidori, 5 points in katana mastery.

then you spend 5 points on mandatory absolute death.

if you want to use hidden cut 6 point minimum investment

If you want to use blade barrier 10 point investment, reflect requires rank 5 to be useful and deflect scales bad unless max rank.

each of the SIX skills is 5 points and I've honestly never seen them used because of kensei's passive tax.

Suggested changes.

blade barrier and hidden cut become 2 point investment, 1 to unlock, 1 to not cost a slot.

Touki, kenki, sakki, yomidori become a single 5 rank passive rank 1 -4 unlocks each at their rank 1 strength and rank 5 bumps them to their current rank 3 strength.


this would free up a total of 13-15 points ( if you don't max out for free slots) lowering the total sp count to 84 which is much more inline with soldier, rogue and archer promotions and ghost (87 points)

blade barrier requires five. Or four. Or three.
Considering everything to be mandatory to be maxed out is a poor way to look at things. You have the option to invest as you see fit, and I don't see a class passive that'd completely protect you from any and all guns from front. (Cobra is the closest, but y'know. Limited uses and all.) You don't need to return all the damage they were trying to inflict on you to protect yourself. You don't need a 100% (or higher) chance of deflecting.

Provide comparisons with other classes where they provide better bonuses for less point cost if you wish to balance things out. How much you can invest into is hardly an argument.

The only reason Kensei seems like such a SP sink is because there are just some classes with skills that aren't worth it, like Ghost has only about 7-8 skills that are actually really good, but the rest of them are trash.

Kensei falls under the same sort of category as Hexer, where almost every skill in it's entire roster is good, making it seem like its necessary to get them all.

I think Kensei's current skill allocation is fine, destiny exists to help it severely.

There's a lot of classes that can qualify as 'SP sinks' - for example, Summoner has quite a few innates, doesn't it? Demon Hunter, you can only get one or two stances done well, etc. I don't think decreasing the SP requirement for skills that are already powerful in their own right, scaling with the points you put in them. If SP sinks are an issue, I don't think this is the way to go about them - you need to keep in mind, usage of SP to get skills is a limiter on it's own, a method to keep players in line and not becoming too powerful.

I just feel that making the skills easier to obtain isn't the way to go about this.

You're completely sidestepping the provided arguments by this math, is there anything to actualy support why the amount of investable points between classes should be similiar?

Well I'm currently dredging up the stats for passives, innates, offensive skills and defensive skills, average sp investiture per type.

but from what I've noticed is that most "fun" classes have some single point passives, some multi point passives, some single point innates and some multi point passives.

classes where they are mostly 5/5 passives and innates get the most complaints about sp sinking.

look at black knight for example, its passive hell there too.

edit also, due to all classes sharing the same resource pool 35/50 points a class with much less investible points will be able to attain synergy and its design intent much more easily.

What if you instead tried, y'know, not taking every single passive skill as a sacrifice to have what you want? Everyone has a weakness, and when they don't, something's wrong there.
