Chimera's (glorious) evolutions.
#1
Chimera are kind of.. criminally boring mechanically for how cool they can in terms of flavor, lore and design.

All of their evolutions combined aren't even close in value to a single good racial from races like Phenex or Leporidae, and some of these evolutions come with a downside, some offer mostly downsides, not to mention that they also get all the downsides of being a homunculi.

When it comes to Chimera evolutions, there is maybe one that is build defining and that is grudge claws, grudge claws are neat, they're only really useful for about one type of build, but it's cool that they enable that, however for 99% of the playerbase that will make a chimera, this will do nothing.

Not to mention that i feel like their best feature, the +5 ele attacks, hardly plays in to the monstrous aesthetic that they have.. And the Homunculi tax reinforces this even more.. They're better suited for magic if anything.. Which I find a little clashing with the fantasy, or at least my view of it somewhat.

As someone who really digs the lore and aesthetic of the race, but feels meh whenever I have to actually build one.. I feel like they're in strong need of a rework.

I would like to propose that instead of infinite mutations that are mostly minor, Chimera get limited to about 3 or so, but the mutations are given more meaningful effects, stuff that's actually potentially build defining, or even just worthwhile to use in a fight.

I definitely agree, chimera should have less abilities but have those be far stronger. The elemental attack being the strongest part is a little sad, they should feel like BEASTS

Tyrant Paws is just Bad. +5 Ice Attack, Counted as Fae..

WHENEVER YOU HAVE NO FOOT SLOT EQUIPPED (Which is bad. Because Evades WANT their foot slot for +5 evade!).. Their kick skills do 30 ice damage!

So much of Chimera's kit is just Friggin Mid. And I'd really love for the race as a whole to get an overhaul, because of just how obscenely mid it is.

I wanna add to this (very real and true) suggestion that, in addition, Chimeras really need the ability to remove evolutions they don't need/want, or simply got by accident. Given their downsides, the fact you can't "reroll" like Amalgama is really unfortunate.

I have made 3 amalgama one salamandra and one chimera that I never actually finished.

You suffer way too much for what little you get from the majority of Chimera evolutions. All these niche counters get to apply to you if you decided you wanted +5 ELE ATK for a very minor bonus. As mentioned the only heavily impactful evolution is grudge claws and it gives you the greatest weakness of all: holy. It's brutal. The only W Chimera has gotten is Insect Whistle letting them potentially benefit from the +3 all stats, otherwise the vast majority of effects that interact with races tend to be punishing rather than rewarding having a certain race.

Oh yeah, and have fun getting Fated Enemy to apply to you for almost every single one that you can currently obtain. (5/7 Fated Enemy's available can apply to Chimera.)

It's definitely something to keep in mind for the future if having a certain race offers a tangible benefit, and I believe that if we placed limits but increased the impact of evolutions it'd also help curb any potential future balance issues with Chimera having access to so many different races at once.

Idea I got:
Shark Teeth: Grants +5 water attack, acess to the maul skill and no longer consumes stamina to eat remains.
Shark skin: grants +15% water resistance and are no longer impeded by flooded water.
Shark fin: grants +3 movement while under Soaked status, and +2 movement on flooded water tiles. Additionally grants acess to dive while on flooded water.

These are all passive skills treated like racial equip skills. You can only take 3 remains based mutations at once. (As in if you eat 3 remains, those 3 are the racial pools you can choose from.)
