Also, the problems with having your 'ears' ripped off as a Kaelen or Redtail is that there is still a lot of hair up there, and you do, sort of, have giant gaping holes that lead to your skull. It tends to lead to infection, and death.

I can see you getting your wings ripped off and still being able to walk properly, especially if it was at a young age.

Aside from our fuzzy friends not having regular ears along with their animalistic ones, I agree with everything in this post.

I just like the aesthetics of two pairs of ears.

But yeah, not having your n'aminal parts because of X reason isn't really unique or interesting. It makes you look like you picked a non-human race because you liked the stats/racials better, and want to hide that race's weaknesses.

Especially Hyattr.

After a while, sure, but after a week (or even a few hours in some cases) you're definitely not going to be walking around perfectly fine.

Nah, if someones walking around just fine a week, let alone anything short of months, with zero physical therapy, they need to be shot. The difference between having them and not would completely throw off your sense of balance due to the weight missing.

Yeeeeah, this is a problem that's been seen since the beginning. Wingless Hyattr especially, Tailess Redtails (I call them Red because they don't have tails.) So post is Psych approved. It's not about the characters with missing racial parts and edgy backstory/reason why. It's about the character's...character.

People forget to account realism when they intentionaly cripple their character to archieve snowflake status. You can't fly. No using flames to fly doesn't work. Maybe wind magic. But that shit would be taxing, so unless you're a pure mage hyattr, don't even dare to do that. You have balance issues. And most of all, you lost your pride. Imagine yourself without genitalia. Aside from the fact you actualy flaunted this bodypart with pride. Especialy so when you're a hyattr. We may live in golden age given to how tumblr level tolerant everyone in SL seems to be, but that's a special case of the players and nobody wanting to be antagonistic.
Sort of a mess of thoughts but you probably get what I mean.

EDIT: I voted other since I see both sides. It can make for good RP or bad RP. Simple fact of the matter is some people ARE doing this just for PVP purposes, which is petty. I think if these people stopped, it wouldn't be an issue overall, but I do still see why people have an issue.

Personally, I do have a single phenex (out of several of mine) who lost their wings (read: crushed beyond repair) in a building collapse close to 20 IC years ago, now. They were bedridden for a long time from the injuries, and took awhile to adapt to the shift in balance. IMO, it works well enough since Phenex have no skills to cause airborne. I wasn't even trying to be special or anything; it was a sign of his weakness. It was something he was ashamed of. Like Sarin said, he was proud of his heritange and wings before losing them.

... but. Let's say he used Kensei/Verglas/Summoner skills to go airborne... would anyone suddenly have a problem with that? Because literally anyone has access to these with the right classes, from Corbies to Dullahans, hyattr to Mechanations. If the swing of a foot or sword can take you to the sky... is jumping so hard? I once had a Wyverntouched BK/G who RP'd Sanguine Star as propelling into the air with the Black Wind and firing 4 Shinkens downward. Considering hanging, is that really so bizzare?

Another big issue is finding pictures. Assuming you are not a proficient editor or too unskilled/broke to produce/commission your own art, you have two options: A very limited pool of pictures with the right features, or simply noting in the profile, "Oh, this and that." The first is infuraiting to the player searching, the second is infuriating to the reader. Eyes slit is one thing, but entire appendages? I've had to make VERY "eh" stretches, myself, like "Oh, I can pass this cape off as wings...."

I get that some people RP badly. That is true. But I also have to wonder how much of this is PVP backlash and "bitch I should have been able to tell your goddamn race!" Since any time I see this come up in-game, it's always, ALWAYS at the arena.

I never said you did. But metagaming is pretty common. You just know people hiding races on purpose is exactly because of absolutely rampant "LOL WINGS I'M TAKING WIND ATTACKS TROLOLOLOL" or other such things. I've witnessed it first hand; hell, I'll admit to doing it it, once (Simply since I was using a fire specialist build and I knew I'd be fighting a hyattr. I did not go straight for wind, but a more neutral element.) While this would surely make IC sense if you knew, someone who ICly uses one element suddenly using another just for PVP is... well... not exactly great RP, after all.
