Chaotic Key: A concern and suggestion
#1
Okay, so let me get this out of the way. I want to throw all my money at a Chaotic key. (Yes. All my money. Money's tight. Shut up.)

But I really do have some issues.

1) Other players can AFK in it so it will not despawn until the next reboot, preventing you from making a new BDP.

2) These players may not even be aware they're being a hindrance, simply since it's not uncommon to stay on a cleared core floor so the dungeon won't despawn,so the next party in has an easier time.

3) Also, it seems like every dungeon I ever enter, someone else always comes in and steals all the chests as I'm fighting to clear the room the chests are in. Dick move. And with the key, you're paying real money to enable more dickery.

Got to admit. Factoring in the above points, the Chaotic Key suddenly seems less appealing. Which brings me to my suggestion: If the player who spawned a BDP is online, others need permission to enter. This way, you can ensure it despawns normally.

Ways this could be done:

1) A password. They can simply not set one if they want anyone to be able to enter it.
2) An open/close toggle like houses.
3) When someone wants to enter it, a prompt appears on the creator's screen, like a party invite or PVP challenge.

And just to silence the inevitable cries of "Waaaaah, my IC!" I would like to point out that I highly doubt CREATING YOUR OWN BDP is in-character.

You're not considering that people are paying five actual dollars out of their own pocket for this item that I'm pretty sure doesn't sound like it's something that should be IC to begin with. I'm not encouraging people to say, "hey I spent $5 on this, so fuck off out of my dungeon", but considering the information above, I'm personally repelled to buying it if I can only use the item every (up to) six hours because someone decides to be a dick and idle one of their alts in my dungeon, or steal all the chests that generated with an object I paid for with real monetary value. It's a real hindrance to the person who owns the key, and it's kind of mooching off of their dungeons for extra chests, which is actually unfair to the people who paid for the key (unless they of course allow it).

I'm fine with the suggested changes to the key. And I don't really feel like I'll buy one until they take effect.

Okay, well, first of all I'm pretty sure this dungeons are supposed to be open to the public instead of having the level 60 crazy mixed giant spacey accel stylish jammer caverns limited down to a small group of people or even just yourself.

I'd say if you're worried about missing phat loot, have a friend with you. Whether they're in your party or not, it'll help add a new layer of security for chests in every dungeon you enter. Or be faster.

There's also just putting your super special secret dungeon all the way in some land that people don't like venturing out to. Like Kysei.

And while I feel as if all of these complaints boil down to, "These COULD happen!" maybe there should be an option to prematurely get rid of the BDP which would force players out, but still leave the cooldown on it.

Actually, it's not an issue of "It COULD happen." It has been brought up in OOC when someone's dungeon (I believe Miv's) had not despawned for a very long time because someone was still inside it. Which is why I became concerned. I mean, clearly you don't need to use the key too often, but when nothing in your level range is around, it can be frustrating when other people come along and just benefit more from your money than you do.

The big thing I don't know is... do player generated dungeons appear in BDP reports? Because not knowing about that is the big reason I haven't just personally turned around and gone "lol it's your own fault for spawning it on the mainland" to anyone who comments on it.

I highly doubt with all the sacrifices just to spawn dungeons (especially for such a high price), that it's meant to be a "YOU MUST MAKE THIS PUBLIC OR YOU'RE A DIRTY HEATHEN" item. Donation items are items that people pay out of pocket for (that in no way perform an p2w options), so what they do with it (aside from illegal things) is really up to them and nobody else has a right to complain.

I know I wouldn't want to pay for something that causes me annoyance and strife because other people take advantage of something I spent my hard earned money on. Nobody should have to hide their dungeon away from other people just because they want to use it and get the items in it / not deal with a 6 hour cooldown because someone decides to passively / actively dick around in the dungeon and cause it not to despawn. That's just my two cents on that matter.

So my solo full dungeon of quick grind/LE's, larger amount of loot to be hoarded by me alone is justified because I decided to pay. Uuuuuhhuh. And the only reason why this couldn't be solved by a less dum thing that being evict people upon wanting to create a new one as the old one collapsiing iiiiiiiiiiis........ uuhhhhhhhh....what?

I agree with Sarinpa, although the idea of a forced closure after it's cleared has its own problems. For example, if someone else gets to the center first and clears the core, and the person who spawned the dungeon gets kicked out before getting there.

But honestly, the idea of private dungeons with this item is silly. If you were paying for just the one dungeon, maybe, but you can spawn them over and over and over with the key. It's not a one-off thing and doesn't need a bunch of restrictive features surrounding it.

Why not just give the owner of a key the ability to destroy the dungeon they've created, but only if the core has been acquired?
Any players remaining in the dungeon would be shunted back to the world map. Then the key owner could just create a new
one wherever.

Yes, there will be those assholes that create a dungeon and close it right after they've cleared it, regardless of who else may be
trying to have fun in it. But I imagine there will also be plenty of people who leave it open, too.

Then again, I also believe that a dungeon's banner text should show the number of players currently inside it, the number of
~parties~ those players have made, and the currently-displayed name and/or alias of the character who created the dungeon,
if any. If not, it should be flagged 'random.'
