Personally, if we were to change it to show the mutated armour typing it should be accompanied with a (M) at the end of it.
Example
-Jimmy has a Carapace Turtle Shell that reads as "A Heavy Armor torso."
-He mutates it.
-It now reads as "An Unarmored torso (M)."
