Lore Questions: December
#27
""]Doriad Lore says that they "stepped out of a tree like it wasn't there".

Do Doriad's have a "Tree walking" ability where they enter one tree and pop out at another within distance?

They can sorta tree walk, as in they can enter/exit trees, but it's not teleporting from tree to tree. They can only really do it in their birth forest too.

I could see them maybe talking to the trees, but something like that is on the level of racial combat abilities and I don't think they can do that.

OK, onto the questions.

Is it possible for someone to curse the living with Cladis Mortem Null?

What exactly does the curse do, where is it from?

What it it's relation to huguessa and hell?

Mortals do not hold any sway over Cladis Mortem Null.

It's a divine gift, just like a lot of races.

What's that?

This violates my 'don't ask overly specific questions' rule, as much as I'd like to answer it. Some have been mentioned recently in the lore blurbs, however.

Silent Spirit and Spirit Pain (Or whatever it's called, the invoc.) are both abilities that involve making people do things against their control.

Just what are the limitations on using this to make people do things other than shoot/punch themselves or you? Just that's pretty bad, but...I want clarification so people don't run around making puppets out of people.

And are there ways to ward off possession?

Hexers don't have the ability to possess people. They lure and empower spirits to possess others. What the spirit does to you is on it, and it's nothing the Hexer has any say in, though usually spirits of the dead that the Hexer can stir up are those that hate the living, and so involves doing something that hurts living things. But it's hardly what I'd call POSSESSION possession.

Actual possession is more on the level of Manes/Remnants, who can actually take control of their host, rather than influence their body temporarily.

Warding off possession can be done with high Faith or Resistance, and the roleplaying qualities that are usually exhibited by people with those stats, such as acute mental fortitude or divine protection.

(And I don't know if this has already been asked but-) What is it like actually using skills like 'Hanging', and 'Castling'? Or even 'Crescent Rook'? Do you in a sense 'ride the black wind' as it takes you to your destination? Is it like Blinking (or Repositioning respectively) just with an attack or adding defensive ability for yourself and an ally?

Hexers, from a magic standpoint, are rather fascinating to Karaten. Karaten as a whole views spirits as an interesting entity with a multitude of potential purposes, and being able to control them is an avenue they are constantly attempting to make headway into, which is why Karaten has an entire department dedicated to supernatural activities, as well as employing people with that potential, ala Summoners.

However, Hexers are often using their magic to actively harm others, and usually only that. So in that regard, Karaten is very disapproving, because it's simplistic and hurts the view of magic to the world at large.

You can interpret it however you like; it can literally be a black wind that obscures you as you appear next to your opponent. The wind can pick up and blow into your opponents eyes, forcing them to shut them, as you make your attack.

""]So, about Hexers. Are they considered as necromancers of some sort? And how do Karaten view them? What kind of spirits do they summon when they use their spells?

Still on the topic of Hexers; What enabled them to turn into Spectre Knights? Are they even still normal living beings? Oh and, what is this 'Enma's Summons'? Who is Enma?

They're the borderline between necromancy and not necromancy. Technically, all they're doing is stirring the hornet's nest of spirits who still roam the world. Necromancy is actively pulling something dead back into the realm of the living, and it also covers reanimation of formerly living material. See above for how Karaten feels about them.

Spectre Knights is a kind of possession-enchant mixture. Enma is the lord of the dead, and is mentioned elsewhere (a certain alchemy ingredient).
