As someone who messes around with RPG maker, I 100% agree. Layers are important for setting things up.
Also, while not the same, the ability to have like a railing to see down to a lower level would be fun, too. Like a second floor patio, seeing your front yard. I know it's not the same thing, but... related-ish?
