Crafting for Leather Squares is bugged in that it won't accept any materials for the field, which prevents it from being made.



As you can see here, I tried clicking the field multiple times, and it won't accept any Remains-type items. This includes workable and base remains. To give an example of my inventory, check here for a recipe involving bait:



As you can see, I have enough base and workable remains. So, it simply doesn't seem to accept anything, preventing Leather Squares from being crafted.
