NGL anything older than like a year and a half old in terms of balance shouldn't really be that considered. The game is entirely different, the meta is different, the players are different, we've learned new things and the current environment does not accurately reflect how things were back then.
That being said, I think going to crit reduction instead of crit evade benefits literally everyone outside of heavy crit evade stackers and even then they'd probably wouldn't have much of a negative experience.
Let's use some extreme examples that are also nice, even numbers. Let us say my dagger has 100 swa and 2.00 crit mod.
On a 0 defense target, thats 200 damage.
On a 50% crit evade target with 35 faith/35 luck that can be either 600 damage or 200 damage. They either get COMPLETELY exploded or make the other person not play the game. If it was instead 50 crit reduction it'd be a consistent 390 damage that both sides know how to plan around.
To Senna's notable comment, this is actually BETTER for tanks that didn't build significant cevade since its now not all or nothing. They go from mitigating nothing to getting at least 15-20% crit reduction instead. These tanks aren't being left behind, they're being *buffed*.
If its a 100% crit evade target with 45 faith/ 50 luck and boneheart, that becomes 240 damage consistently if they use all three actions to attack. This too makes it more consistent for both parties.
One thing EVERYONE has basically said is that SWA only attacking isn't very good, so why is suddenly everything scared of less than swa attacking with crit reduction built?
This is all roundabout in a weird way since mages do that much damage regardless and much more consistent at the current moment in time.
Also yea, black water is not a solution especially sicne SBs can be totally and completely immune to it.
