Most, if not all, skills that apply an effect based on the power of the attack work before resistances, so this isn't anything new or different. And, personally, I'd want it to stay the same.

Then there would be no point of this skill even doing damage in the first place. If you just straight removed the health as pure damage, the darkness damage would be entirely irrelevant since once the effect wears off you don't heal the removed health back. That's silly, and frankly overpowered. Like a lot of the other DH abilities.
