Changing face icons
#1
Changing your face icon and then posting still crashes people unfortunately, can the old feature to force relog be re-added?

All of my yes. There's people abusing this to grief RP. And we crash when it happens so we don't know who, so we can't report them.

No one's actually using it to abuse and grief RP.

Just so you know.

Bashir didn't intend for it to happen, and they stated they've already relogged since doing it. Blame BYOND.

Actually, every time I've crashed from this, the last thing I see is the person's post without the proper rendering of their face icon. (I'm on Windows 7. The screen fades white followed by a popup 'stopped responding' window, but I can still see everything.) I'm assuming the same doesn't happen on your operating system, but someone should be able to confirm who's doing it in the case actual grief is taking place.

[size=68]I know Bashir's player, and I highly doubt he'd do that. I highly doubt a lot of people have foul intentions behind this bug. Please confirm before you accuse people, or it doesn't end well for anyone. :

Actually, I'm pretty confident it's not Bashir (that was intentionally griefing RP, I mean) since he apparently uploaded it before going to bed yesterday, and I believe him. Unless he just didn't turn the comp off and it didn't reboot since.

I was talking about another incident in Dormeho. Bashir's messages did pop up before it crashed, but not this other time, so I'm not sure. And since it was crashing the same people repeatedly, it stands to reason that someone was changing repeatedly. Maybe I am making assumptions and maybe they just didn't know about DMIs and were changing files completely every time, but it kept happening despite people asking for it to stop so past a certain point it had to have been intentional. I had to change characters entirely since I couldn't even leave the area.

EDIT: Posted when groggy from a nap, added details I forgot.

Actually, I'm not sure if we can assume that. I had an incident where someone (I know who, but I'll withhold the alias) was posting, and every time they posted, I crashed, no matter how many times I logged back on. A few others were also affected.

However, it didn't seem to be affecting them or the people they were roleplaying with. Why? I am not certain, at all.

I believe there's more convoluted details to it than whether someone (offender or victim) relogged or not, like there was with my 'image in description' bypass. I could always look at that page fine, but anyone else would crash immediately. I think it has something to do with what's 'cache'd' (quotations because I don't mean only the BYOND cache in this case).

So I'd still put most of my blame for this on new BYOND, and hopefully, adding the forced logout will get around this again. Hopefully.

Thanks for bringing that to my attention. It is quite probable that I'm overdue for a cache clear (since the other day, when my party went for the Phoenix Band, the chest was invisible to me) so I'll see if that helps.

On the note of the Phoenix Band chest, yes, a cache clear should help with that. (I had the same problem.) As for faceicon crashes, maybe. I've cleared my cache numerous times since the update, and I have crashed immediately after clearing.

Specifically in the repeated crash incident I just mentioned, yes, I cleared cache, relogged, and crashed immediately once that same person posted again. After that specific crash, I told the person I was roleplaying with over Skype, 'I give up.'

But I haven't crashed from faceicons in the past two days, at least, I believe. I think we'll see a calm here now that the rush of new/returning players is slowing down.

Hope it helps you though.

I thought I'd make note of this here rather than opening a new thread to point it out, but I just had a particularly interesting crash from face icons.

The thing that made it interesting was the fact I had a character at the arena I was roleplaying on but also had an alt who was by Remedia because I was sparring a friend to test my build. Someone new to the scene posted toward the IC group. It caused my first character's client and the clients of a few of the people nearby to all crash. However, my second character's client rendered the icon just fine and was A-OK.

Again, the randomness to these crashes boggles my mind, and I still feel inclined to blame it on BYOND itself rather than SL2's coding. Just thought this might be good to point out.

It's a BYOND issue, yes. One I had hoped would be fixed by now, but I guess not. Maybe I'll try and put together a proper bug report for Lummox but in the meantime, I reinstated the forced relog.
