When you fray a voidgate, the projectiles are supposed to give you void energy equal to half the damage they deal.

When I fray a voidgate, the projectiles pass over me, but I gain no energy.

Voidveil has to be active to receive void energy from Fray projectiles. Was it?

Also, check your armor; it has to be cloth. An unarmored metal torso is a no go, and a cloth heavy is fine.
