Icy Katana needs help
#1
Let's talk about Sogensara; the Ice katana of course. It's also quite hard to balance considering what it is.

Issue: We'll start with Sogensara; ever since the katana was stabbed down, shot several times and thrown in a coffin, it lost it's identity and more or less became a weapon people put on their wall for decoration. As much as a lot people hate to admit it, the weapon, unlike Yukijin (Should talk about this one later), doesn't have much going on for it anymore ever since the scaling changed.

Quote:At best, it only outclass it's icy counterpart in power; by exactly +2 power and a ability to freeze plants (Situational) whilst the Yukijin on the other-hand has 10% ice resistance, a hidden cut potential bonus that can make ice points and more accuracy in return. They're two stars apart as well.

You can tell from this, the 7 Star weapon Yukijin easily outweighs the 9 star weapon Sogensara.
Notes: Since the weapon is just a 'Yukijin lite', how about we give it its own Identity. Give people a reason to use this nine star weapon and not just put it on their wall and recall the days it was useful.

Suggestion: How about we adjust the scaling of the weapon a bit. Instead of it being a complete copy of Yukijin and Kouenjin with 60 strength/40 skill, how about, 60 skill/40 strength, 75 Skill/ 25 strength or even 80 skill/20 strength since it's a respite (Which normally takes quite some skill to use) and still a nine star weapon. Granting it a better scaling to put somewhat above above the 7-8 star jin katanas in terms of SWA as well as keeping the 100% scaling present.

In a sense, it'll allow the Katana to be reasonable as well as still giving people the option to choose between it and the Jin series katana all the same. Whereas one just has a good scaling whilst the other has alot more bonuses. (Power vs Potentials).

Honestly? Ever since STR got the buff it did, I've been thinking the idea of majority SKI scaling weapons isn't all that crazy anymore. I'd dare say 80% SKI 20% STR scaling is fine.

Considering the base stats of a Sogensara isn't particularly special in any way. ( Having less accuracy, while having more power than a Yukijin ) I think 75% SKI/25% STR is fine honestly considering it's a 9* weapon without much going for it aside from a niche skill that rarely sees use.

I don't think we need to reel back on weapon scalings because STR got HP tied to it, I still think it needs to be a large portion of the scaling, anything less than roughly 40% of the scaling of the weapon is just not anything I would agree with at all. Melee builds can build no STR and still have plenty of enough HP to survive most encounters, while having more useful stats available to it than STR anyways, since you can roughly equate 3 STR to 1 VIT the additional HP of STR is a bonus yes but not enough of a bonus to start warranting rolling back on martial weaponry not having STR scaling to it, barring the exception of daggers and GUI because GUI is roughly the same as STR (Harder to build while still maintaining accuracy/evade/tankiness etc.) and I'll get into that in a second here.

I will share the opinion of GUI being a viable scaling stat that is comparable to STR however, if you want to start introducing that as a main scaling factor for weapons, the the floor imo is open for that, but it'd have to be about the same as STR in terms of total scaling (I think that Bandit-line weaponry should receive this treatment, for example, they receive NO use currently.)

I also think that Katanas should start moving into the territory of having better critical damage than most other swords, at the risk of lower power/scaling, possibly adjusting the Sogensara's critical damage could be in order too instead of simply just changing its scaling? Something like 125% like Hisen and Wo-dao.

In short, no I don't think it should be anything less than 40% STR Scaling, any other SKI scaling in there is whatever, as long as its not 120% total again.

On an after note, you can also probably start introducing WIL as a main scaling stat for some swords as well, that could be really fun to build for and open new build paths, Autohit builds are leaning less towards massive amounts of FP these days anyways so I predict with the existence of dragon king STR stacking and swords like Kingslayer still existing, you can probably even introduce these without shifting the balance too much.

Sorry for the wall, these are my legitimate thoughts on weapons and swords in particular.

I think 60% skill and 40% str is the best option imo scaling wise.

A change to it's skill Everblue would be nice as well as it's currently very situational and kinda not extremely useful.

I'd say either 60/40 or 75/25 in SKI/STR for Sogensara, honestly. I wouldn't go lower than that personally, because I wouldn't want it to be TOO easy to use with just SKI. That being said, a majority SKI scaling for it seems fine to me. The health you get from STR does give a little more appeal to running STR scaling weapons so a little bit more deviation from that doesn't seem too much of a problem to me.

Everblue might need an adjustment as well as Sol suggested. Though something balance and not off the top like summoning a random twister. Perhaps something like, if the person isn't a plant, it gives them a small level frostbite as well as having a cooldown? Since if it's cold enough to freeze plants solid then perhaps the frostbite or Celsius could do.

60/40 seems to be best here. I'd be more comfortable doing higher if it didn't make the Hakouhen Masterwork Katana completely obsolete, which gives high SKI scaling, with low durability as the price for it. Sogensara would outclass it in its scaling, and would have Ice ATK on hit to boot.

60% SKI/45% STR

Don't think I'll need to make any points, since all's been said already. Give us a better reward for finding a 9* Katana please. The one you gain for free outmatches it by far.
