Detogate reads in-game as

Targets one of your Voidgates within 7 Range and causes it to explode....

But it functions on all void gates regardless if you placed it or not. Your update reads as

a void gate

Wasn't sure which was correct rather this was intended or is it suppose to be only yours?

When you use detogate on a void gate that is not yours, it explodes as if it was yours. Thus not causing harm to you, but harm to enemy.
