RP Emotes Pierces Through Opaque Walls in Home
#11
Because logs are shit. But I guess it's fine. Ryu isn't an admin anymore (I don't think).

So you know. Give logs for everyone, make walls suck less ass unless you do something like emote @Door to make it visible through said wall.

Also giving the ability to access minor logs, from NPCs, would be cool. For the like, last half hour or so.

It'd probably help guards who question NPCs in an area of "WHO ATTACKED WHO FIRST TARSON!?" and the logs point to x person doing it.

Alright since this topic got heavily derailed, I'll tell you this.
Emote has a limited range. Houses exceed such range. Want to cyber in the game and not get caught? make it impossible for people to reach emote range. (No this is not from personal experience despite how many of you would like to think that. )
So. Emotes piercing through walls = tools for GMs to uncover smut was thrown aside. Shall we focus on topic again.

Yes. It would be dandy to possibly differentiate inbetween audible emotes and nonaudible. Question is, would people use it properly? "I am in a room with the only person I'm rping with. Why bother with some extra verb if I can just use one verb for it all." And oops, that person behind the wall can't eavesdrop. Sure. They could show them an audible emote of how they're listening in, as an alert that they should audible emote properly, but that's already assuming they're not terrible at roleplaying. (Meaning, that they will follow that, rather than just continue in emote/go and uncover thief)

In other scenarios, knocking, ramming againts a wall, sounds of a fight and all that would be an awesome thing to hear through walls, while the rest of it remains unheard, yes?

Emotes piercing through walls are detrimental to atmosphere and can get particuairly annoying in crowded acomodations, if people are trying to roleplay in separate rooms. Especialy so with the fact that you see occasional emotes that make no sense in context, since there are says between them.

So, since it's definetly not foolproof againts someone that wants to cyber on the game and isn't a complete retar- uhh. Dummy. Is there a reason why such feature shouldn't be implemented? (And I swear to god if this turns to sex again I'm smacking a hoe or ten.)

I didn't mean to start a war. If it's there to protect against ERP, then I guess that's understandable; however, how is that to stop people from doing it in 'say'? Just a thought, haha..

On topic, I still think 'shout' should pierce through walls to elevate RP just a little. Just a suggestion!

I too believe this.

My idea towards it is that if emotes could be heard through walls, most people wouldnt be inclined to risk ERP within the client, even behind closed doors.

Of course, being that there's a way or two to get through that, there's not much logical reason to keep walls open for emote-eavesdropping. On the other hand, when we've had a few people before that had no problem abusing places the GMs can't check, I'm at least a bit skittish to just toss even more rope to burn.

And sure, let Shout carry through walls.

This might just be me being cynical but it feels like every time this topic comes up, people say they want the communication verbs to function the opposite of how they currently do.

Well I only thought it would be more realistic if I was yelling down the halls for someone, they should be able to hear it regardless if they're in a different room and if I'm smiling at someone in a separate room, they, and anyone else in that room, should be the only ones to see it.

I do most of my RPing in my guild home, so I found it a little strange I can't contact someone by yelling outside the door or why someone next door can see me do emotes.

Just food for thought!

Checkmate. And eh, I'm pretty sure I've saw a better 'Say, Emote, Shout' in-game mechanics back in Mitadake High days.

Let's all set a finalized, mutually agreed list of chat commands that should and shouldn't pierce walls/take visibility into account, and I'll change it. And then we will never speak of this again.

Shout should be the only one that goes through walls.
Say and Emote should not.

Unless you add a new emote ("lemote"?) that can pierce through walls for loud actions such as wall banging and such, that'd seem to be all.
