[Kensei] Skillful Blade Dance
#11
I don't really think that raising it to 100% STR will make THAT much of a difference that it will be lifted up from rags to glory. Let's say your STR has a total of 50; and your weapon power is 15. Then, let's say for example that you're going to use a rank 5 Kagekiri. So, it will be like this (from what I computed, who knows, I might suck so bad when it comes to math. :v)
COMPUTATIONS AHEAD

So that would be
37.5
+ 15
+ 15
____
67.5

In Kensei's current STR percentage used; but should be bump it to 100% then we'd have;
50
+ 15
+ 15
____
80

And we all know that
80
- 67.5
___
12.5

and that is without factoring defense, and hell! That's the DAMAGE of their SKILL. No matter how offensive it may seem, does it not seem to be a tad bit. . .weak?

But either way, my point is, raising the percentage to 100% will not hold that MUCH of an effect. :v And maybe that instead of raising the STR %, we make some adjustment to make Kensei more appealing. (Just like what Dev said)

I think that along with 100% STR scaling, they should also have the chance to deal Criticals.

(Yes, some of them can thanks to being Elemental Compatible, but I think they should all be able to do that without it.)

C-C-C-CRITICAL HIT!

Maybe they could have 50% STR/50% SKI or 75 STR/25 SKI. Since most Kensei's will have better SKI than STR. Just to make them a little more desirable. But yeah like. Half of them are meant to chain together, but they end up failing spectacularly.

In my honest opinion (or ranting); I think that SKI should be Kensei's main stat, since yeah, raw force doesn't seem to be the main way Kensei fight. I see them as more of a. . . '' I'll strike you where it hurts the most! '' Or something. :v

"[url=http://neus-projects.net/viewtopic.php?p=2810#p2810 Wrote:Rendar » Tue Dec 30, 2014 10:17 pm[/url]"]Yeah but its easy to get perfect WIL. And above 100%. It's hard to get near 100% STR.

I did the math. Highest it is physically possible to get is...

30% (Wyverntouched)
10% (Trait)
40% (Arbalest as main class)
7% (BK/Kensei/VA Subclass)
5% (Packrat)
5% (Legend Author)
______

97%. On a setup with quite frankly shit for survival (WT + Arb vit = lol, almost no cel, almost no res, defense is decent but not amazing) and, of course, quite lacking in options (WT skill kinda sucks, Arbalest skill is only okay, so this means you'd end up relying a lot on autohits, etc)

The low Vit and wyverntouched could be fun for going all out offensive with self poisoning, but if you're doing that, why not just use their ability to get 110% will, instead?

Basically, until we get classes with 50% Str growth, I'm fully in favor of having a way of adding SOME skill to the formula, and I refuse to use tactician JUST for this (which, by the way, doesn't even apply to Kensei skills, lolololol) especially on characters who aren't tactically minded and whom it would be out of character for.

Also, on the topic of hexer skill scaling: IMO, If you're going for perfect Will on a Hexer, you're doing it wrong. Hexer actually has pretty decent defensive growths (25% Def/Res) and several abilities that make them work best when under attack (Payback, Curses, Spirit Pain against things that use normal attacks, etc) while the ways to get perfect will toss defenses aside.

How about giving Kensei skills the ability to crit but it's not in the 1.5x damage sense crit but it adds like 50% of your skill to the damage when it does. So in theory, if your skill is > strength (which is very likely if you're a Kensei main), you can actually do more damage than a normal crit to make up for the fact that you'll do less than normal damage if you don't crit, risk reward (would also make it so you don't need min max out the *** for strength and you can actually get by with Kensei's growths cuz they're definitely good growths in comparison to every other damage stat that can hit 100% without completely changing the theme of your build -huge theme shift between being an onigan kensei that's a bit dodgy to a bulky wyverntouched that had to go arb/bk for a bit just for good strength-

kensei already has absolute death, so be careful with buffing.

Which was nerfed recently.

25% is still a significant steroid for physical damage. However being just 25% I'd be fine with changing it to a passive that procs on a target hit and buffs the next hit they do on them.

that'd buff their damage, allow them to mark multiple enemies with their aoe slashes, and capitalize on a second aoe for bonus damage, and isn't there a passive that makes the next kensei skill free? sounds like combo shenannigans.

I agree with lolzy. When you stack all the ways a Kensei can weaken an enemy they can do some formidable damage, and that's not even counting the damage they do from counterattacks as well. I should also point out that the entire class is designed to be a controller of sorts, it weakens enemies rather than outright dump out a ton of damage. The kensei offensive skills aren't meant to dish out high end damage, their designed to spread out damage over multiple foes at once and manipulate enemy positions, again another feature of a controller role. If you wanted to do direct damage using all of your strength stat then you use your basic attack, that's all.
