Versatile
#1
Versatile on Spellthief should make spells cost 0.5 skill slots instead of 0 skill slots.

When compared to other skill slot savers like on Engi or Ruler, it is just that much better.

Any mage running Spellthief kinda never has to worry about skill slots, and I say this as someone who runned Evoker/Spellthief for a long time!

Versatile being put on 0.5 would also make ST/Curate Promo actually have to think on their skill slots or get some skill! And not just ignore the mechanic completely... It would be a good change fr fr ong.

OR have just stolen spells cost nothing, to be in line with other reduction skills catering to their own class only

I think having stolen spells costing nothing would be the best. The original intent was probably so actively stealing spells instead of build-a-mage'ing wouldn't suddenly put you over your skill cap and vanish, which that'd still cover.

I disagree completely, vehemently and on a conceptual level with this, and accuse this idea of being only brought up on the basis of salt.

Edit.

to clarify I believe there is a skill slot problem, smacking every exception to the problem to "suffer together" is not the solution

I agree completely with the idea, spellthief had it too good for too long

Smacking versatile is pretty much going to hit low-end builds the worst, yet again, and I'm not entirely convinced that the builds you're worried about are actually going to be materially impacted by it either.

Let's not start sniping skill slot support.

Make it so it only works for Copy Spells. They're now very distinctive anyway.

I'm for the opposite party... Cause the other skill slot reduction skills to actually become just as good as versatile! More buffs, less nerfs, nerfs on things that aren't actively breaking the game just makes you lose a player-base.

Personally i think a versatile change shouldnt come without some universal skill slot buff, we're halfway into a 3 skill point skill meta now and the current skill slots do not support that. Sometimes not even having a tome is enough for combos of two 3 skill point skill classes.

The game is currently in a delicate balance where many builds have to give up a few skills that they would like, but at the same time many others get to equip everything. If we're gonna move in a direction of allowing every build to equip all the skills they want, like people seem to be wanting, then we might as well remove the skill pool system.

Personally I think skill pool size is a good mechanic and we should balance it in a way that makes most builds have to make choices, give up a few niche skills, while skill pool buffing skills allow you more of those utility options, making rogue and guile builds more versatile. But if you get to equip literally everything from those 140 skill points you invested, then the mechanic is pointless.
