If you capture 5 spirits then respec, you keep your 5 spirits, even if you are no longer talented enough to do so.
This means you could potentially get all 5 spirits then put your points elsewhere, or get all 5 and properly respec back, but no longer be able to see spirits (to have extra points elsewhere).
I suggest losing all spirits on log out if you are no longer talented enough to hold spirits.
