A bunch of suggestions that I kept thinking about for a while now. (Ham's tedtalk)
Posted by: Ham - 08-05-2020, 04:01 PM - Forum: Suggestions - Replies (5)

you read the title, let's get right to the point shall we?
I'll start with the summary of everything, and then go more into detail.
-dmi size cap expansion
-more stamps (thanks ryu)
-changing borders to more than just 'default colors or custom colors', and more 'select your preferred style (futuristic, steam punk, rusty, plain, etc)' (thanks fern)
-changing the background to 'default with pattern or custom colors with pattern', and more 'select your preferred style (pattern, plain, other preset patterns, i'd add a make your own pattern thing too but that might be too hard to execute)
-basically regalia but for your overworld sprite, since alot of things just cant be portray'd correctly and some people would want to make their own stuff themselves to look more accurate
-perhaps more whip weapons, and ones that have potentials too
-maybe a way to link other stuff that isn't youtube like soundcloud for videos that get taken down and the such
-a minigame for each place maybe? like how oniga gets yenten,  give lispool ice skating or something idk (to make the world lively and give me a reason to visit other places tbh)

so, in detail:

Number one, the DMI thing. I'll make it as brief as i can: 256kbs is fucking pathetic for a size, and marching bands and music having around 2mbs of a size limit is weird considering DMIs are more vital and everyone can afford one, unlike music which can be situational and in this case, only used in battles.
So, why? Why is the DMI size limit still 256 when it can obviously go further without that much trouble? It just results in a major quality loss due to compression and in the worst situations, loss of really good facial expressions that could have made a difference and affected the emergence of the rp.

Number two, more stamps- while this isn't a major complaint of mine nor is it as big of an importance as the DMI point, ryu brought up the fact that there is still empty space in the log book once you complete all tasks and stamps and it kinda made me give it a big ol' thonk, so eh, wouldn't hurt to suggest one or two more I guess.

Number three and four, Fern brought up something similar before in this same forum, but I'd like to take it abit Further. I'll be honest, the pattern gets in the way sometimes and the style of the profile image's border can make some colors look weird, but in other cases it looks pretty fucking stylish.
So here's my suggestion: Instead of keeping the 'change type' as 'do you want the default colors? or custom ones?', we change it to 'well there's style 1 aka default, style 2 aka plain, etc etc...' and the same goes for the background. I feel like it might give some profiles alot more identity and flair and can be alot of fun.
Now I could also suggest custom patterns but as you read in the summary, can be abit hard to pull off i feel. But I also have some hope.

Number five, So basically people enjoy iconning sometimes, and those same people sometimes look at the current icons we have and go 'hmm something's missing'. Like a bunch of Kimonos and stuff.
Now that's not saying what we currently have is Bad, just... if you've ever played Dragon Universe you'd know just how much people enjoy having freedom over their overworld sprites because of the endless possibilities that can be pulled of while not restrained by the shackles of 'we don't have that yet'. and I believe that waiting for someone to icon and submit an icon that you'd enjoy (a new kimono for example) would make you have to wait till it's approved and added to the game if ever.

Number six, there's... not much to this one tbh, I've just been playing some castlevania and went 'man I wish they expanded upon the whips in sl2'. So feel free to ignore this one, it's just my dumb brain going 'woah bro what if'.

Number seven, I enjoy BGMs, alot of people do. But sometimes I get sad when a theme I enjoyed having is suddenly pulled off from youtube and I can't vibe to it in my profile anymore. So perhaps a way to link other sites like soundcloud that have some themes that might not be on youtube? I dunno.

Number eight, now I enjoy visiting other places in sl2... sometimes. If it weren't for the fact that some places just feel so empty and lifeless. Giving people a reason to visit other places sounded like the most ideal decision to me, just imagine, ice skating in Lispool or something.
It doesn't even have to be complex, I'm not asking for BeyBlade battles in Alstalsia nor NetNavi battles in Karaten, just... something fun and lively, to bring life back to those places.

That's all, folks! Time for the afterword.
So, this was a thing and a half. I hope my lack of experience and professionalism in this didn't make it too un-comprehensible.
Basically, I enjoy this game for the most part despite it's flaws, but that's why I also want to see it grow past what it is right now, into what it can be, future's now and all that. I hope you all had fun reading this, just like how I had fun writing it. Feel free to comment your other suggestions or to call me a fucking idiot for my weird and dumb ideas.

Thank you for coming to my tedtalk.
Sincerely, that one edgy asshole.

We're.... Really not that magical (Magical Girl weapon potential update)
Posted by: Ryuzaki - 08-05-2020, 02:51 PM - Forum: Suggestions - Replies (2)

Currently, as of this thread going live only two of what have been dubbed the "Magical girl" weapons have a potential; that being, the Nova, with its incredibly fun Nova Eraser skill, and the Comet, with its beefy (Albeit questionable element) map-wide AoE.

So, today, I come with some suggestions for pushing the rest of what are unironically some of my favorite weapons in the game even further beyond. Potential suggestions, for the weapons that are missing them.

Magical Star (The sword):

Radiant Divide:
"Tear away the darkness before me..."
Requires a Rank D invocation:
Upon cast, destroy all special tile effects within a 3 circle radius, before firing a beam of energy 3 tiles wide that deals unresistable light attack equal to 150% SWA to all enemies inside its radius. Any tiles with tile effects on them upon cast are then replaced with light shafts level 25 (Or pillage.)

Magical Photon (The Dagger):

Akashic slash:
"A cut through time and space..."
Requires a Rank D invocation:
Upon cast, teleport to each enemy in a (x) tile radius (Please debate the range of this), dealing 200% SWA as Akashic damage. Then, teleport to a random tile on the battlefield. Enemies defeated with this attack are inflicted with Certain Defeat

Magical Meteor (The Bow):
"Let the stars rain down..."
Requires a Rank D invocation:
Fire an arrow skyward, calling upon the power of the moon and stars themselves as their essence falls to the earth, dealing 200% SWA as unresistable fire (Or light) damage to all enemies on the field, and inflicting them with glowing level 25.

Magical Moon (The Spear):
"By the power of the moon.. (Get that sailor moon reference, yes)"
Requires a Rank D invocation:
Hurl your spear skyward, pulling down the moonlight upon your enemies. Within a 5 circle radius, all enemies are inflicted with 200% SWA as unresistable light damage, and inflicted with Glowing (level 10) for 3 rounds. However, those who evade the moon's bright light, take 200% SWA as unresistable dark damage, and are inflicted with blind for 3 rounds. Enemies inside of the radius defeated by light damage are inflicted with Certain Defeat.

Magical Sun (The Axe):
"Sear this evil before me..."
Requires a Rank D invocation:
Raise your axe skyward, before slamming it down with the power of the sun, immediately casting a Setting Sun like ball (Equal to Setting Sun's max radius, I can't remember if that's 5 or 6 tile circle.) Any enemies inside of this tile take 250% SWA as unresistable fire atk, and any tiles inside the radius are left with the pillaged effect. Enemies also have a luck based chance to be inflicted with burn level 50 (Debatable).

And there you have it. The chances of seeing all (if any) of these implemented at all, or at least without some tweaks are likely slim to none, and I know my stat balancing is of course shifty on these, but this is something I'd love to see discussed, and something interesting that fits the themes of the weapons reached.

If you're wondering why I avoided any of these being a transformation effect, read the weapon descriptions.
Feel free to throw in your own, or rag on me for my horrible choices. I had fun with this.

Subject: Artist Seeking Work

This is from the Fleshmade Cone known as Dawn. I am somewhat difficult to find so you may need to arrange a meeting through this if that is how this device functions. I am seeking short term contract employment to provide various intelligent beings who desire my work with sketches and paintings. This is a task to provide me with basic murai for alcohol and supplies while learning how to make art for other people. The price will be negotiated but start at 5 murai for a sketch and 250 murai for a painting. Thank you for your time strange box and also everyone who can read this.

  Mercalan Hearts
Posted by: Blissey - 08-05-2020, 01:31 AM - Forum: Factions - No Replies

Mercalan Hearts
[Image: E7i4gix.png?1]

Mercalan Hearts is an official sect of the Church of Mercala. They are a congregation of men and women seeking to promulgate the common law and word of The Voice, and by extension, Mercala herself. In the past, the Mercalan Hearts were an exclusive covenant of women; but now, the Mercalan Hearts have expanded to include men of the faith as well. This sect is led by High Priestess Mavis Haemin, also known as the Chief of Medicine of Lispool.

Mercalan Hearts heavily believe in natural ways of recuperation, sticking strictly to using professional medical aid in lieu of Mercana, and much like Mercala, do not take much liking to the abuse of Mercana -- even for scrapes, scratches, and bruises. They use Mercana in only incredibly risky and extreme situations where medical aid simply will not assist -- some even go so far as to use Ki to avoid using Mercana. Such risky situations can be assumed to be Void Poisoning, mass injuries that need to be healed in a timely fashion, mass life-or-death injuries, or life-or-death injuries in general; severe illness and sickness that can lead to comatose or extreme debilitation have also been cited as genuine emergencies Mercalan Hearts consider using Mercana in. They still ultimately defer to the Church's judgement on the usage of Mercana, however. Even so, there is no doubt that this particular group practice far more restraint than is mandated by the Church -- whether it is to not feed the hound of complacency or their own reverence of Mercala, though it could simply be for both reasons.

Aside from following their prerogative in nursing others back to health, Mercalan Hearts often scour the realms in search of those in need. This could range from beggars needing alms to get by, to where others need homes to stay in for a certain period of time -- whether reduced or no rent is necessary. Furthermore, in their travels, they help build and rebuild villages and establishments while also preaching the true word of Mercala to those willing to listen. They triple as educators and guides as well, naturally embedding Mercala's words within their lessons. Some may include more secular aphorisms, though, for the sake of simplicity.

They are not unknown for emulating Mercala's legendary White Lady attire, although such regalia is not a requirement in being identified as a Mercalan Heart. Their belief in Mercala being the primary progenitor of life, and therefore the pillar of life itself, is trenchant within them; there is very little logic, science, research, or theories that can usually go against their belief in their White Lady's supreme judgment and rule over life itself.

FAQ

Q What's the point of this faction?
A My intention with this faction is to promote Mercalan RP and presence in the SL2 world. From what I've observed, there is very little religious RP that happens at all, so why not start with the most popular god in Sigrogana?

Q Why were they female-only before?
A In the distant past, many eons ago, Mercalan Hearts existed as an actual mechanical class in SL1. Eventually, it was unified with Mercalan Priest and ceased to exist. The original lore stated that they were female-only, so I wanted to bring that back to SL2. As nuns exist in the real world, so too do monks -- who tend to be male-only. I wanted to create that kind of emulation in SL2, aside from just honoring SL1's old lore of Mercalan Hearts. However, due to OOC issues, I wasn't able to bring this to fruition. Hopefully by opening this up to male characters, a more unified Mercalan RP front can be established.

Q Can anyone apply to join?
A OOCLY, yes. ICLY, it's invite only. Mercalan Hearts are meant to be elite without being bigoted zealots. They practice ultimate restraint and only seek to promote the accurate word of Mercala in its entirety, seeking to not repeat anything any others of the Church state unless it is Mercala herself (this means whatever Dev has said in official lore. Sometimes we extrapolate for the sake of flavor, but Dev sort of allows this due to his equating the Mercalan religion to modern day Christianity, in a way). If you have a character you wish to involve in some Mercalan RP, by all means reach out to me on Discord at Anastasia#0666 and we can work something out.

Q What do you do?
A As mentioned above, to promote Mercalan RP and establish an actual group people can interact with that represent the closest thing to the Church as possible without treading on any lore toes. I hope to get this group involved in events and such, but for the most part, you'd be preaching -- sermons, on the street, or even helping out with the Lispool medical ward (which doesn't sound like much fun now, but as the system evolves, I'm sure more help will be necessary). It's really heard to task things as a religious organization when you're not trying to be antagonists, but I can certainly say one thing: the Mercalan Hearts hate the Void and the fact it exists. Perhaps getting involved in some Void related quests could be fruitful in the future? Or maybe a Mercalan Heart can lecture a Void user's ear off? Or perhaps, as a Mercalan Heart just observing the people, you can chastise someone who is abusing Mercana (Mercalan Hearts don't like that, either).

Q What do you mean when you say 'officially recognized by the Church'?
A So this one is tricky, but it doesn't actually mean anything fancy. What this means is that the Church recognizes it exists and I received permission from Devourer Of Souls for this many years ago when I first intended to bring this group into the canon. The Mercalan Hearts don't have actual influence on how the Church functions, or how it rules, nor can they command Church Knights, nor do they have a squadron of Church Knights that they can call upon. Their role is to provide a unified RP front for Mercalans to be a part of, and to enrich the lore of Mercala. Now, I must explain that my intention in making it 'official' in this way is much the same as the Blades Of The Promised Land, another 'official' faction recognized by a major governmental party. By making the Mercalan Hearts 'official' in the eyes of the Church, it makes it easier for them to get into certain RP situations and events. It also adds to credibility. But I must reiterate: the Mercalan Hearts are NOT a mouthpiece for Mercala or the Church.

Q What ranks are there in this faction?
A Not many, but for the most part:
High Priestess is the highest rank, this being the leader of the group.
Priest/Priestess is the second highest, this being full-fledged members of the group (this rank also doubles as nurses/doctors in the Lispool medical ward, and they can also host sermons without supervision, and can travel in their own mini-groups without supervision).
Acolytes is the third highest, and these are fledgling members of the group. They mainly go throughout the lands, observing and helping others. Sometimes they go into dungeons and help adventurers, sometimes they remain in city-states and preach and/or help the homeless and needy with alms.
Students is the lowest rung, members who are not really official members of the group, but are affiliated with the group. They tend to just be students of a priest/priestess in the group, including the High Priestess.

Q Wait, wasn't this stuff on the Wiki that one time?
A Yep. But I opted to have a GM purge it and I moved it to the Factions section of the forums for further exposure and easy reference. I had it on the Wiki to further support how 'official' it was, but that didn't provide much exposure for it (it was also kind of a dumb idea my old self had and I only just got around to remedying that). So now it's here, and now I can edit this however necessary without bothering anyone.

If you have any other questions, please message me directly on Discord (Anastasia#0666). I'll be happy to answer all questions you may have. I've been doing the whole Mercala thing for a long time now, so I tend to have answers.

  Delving Restplace
Posted by: Inconspicuous Kitty - 08-05-2020, 12:22 AM - Forum: Suggestions - No Replies

So, I was wondering: Could dungeon interiors behave similarly to camps in the regard that you can place campfire kits, feast tables and furniture in them? I think this'd be pretty cool to have, get people to set up 'checkpoints' in BDPs to rest a moment. This should probably only be doable on floors that have been cleared.

Fishing Bot [Donation / Patreon suggestion]
Posted by: GenixSS113 - 08-04-2020, 06:42 PM - Forum: Suggestions - Replies (1)

I think it would be interesting to have a bot that automatically fishes for you. Either through a tick-based system where it generates a small batch of fish over 2 to 4 ticks, or have a system where you need to give the bot fishing bait before it can fish.

If the former is done, it would just generate random small to large fish in the bots inventory. It must be collected before it can fish again.

If the latter is done, it is required to have some form of fishing bait in the bots inventory to fish at all. Giving it around a 75% chance to catch any fish would make it worthwhile, but also using the bot itself has some form of risk to it. Each attempt could be set at around 20 seconds each time if done this way. Giving it a limit of 100 bait to the bots would be suggested.

(I do realize there is a suggestion board for donation items, but I would like opinions on this.)

  [v2.29b] First Aid (Treatment)
Posted by: Trexmaster - 08-04-2020, 03:48 PM - Forum: Bug Reports - Replies (1)

The Treatment sub-talent isn't working.

After battles when either myself or other party members receive minor, moderate, or major wounds the Treatment talent doesn't activate and the wounds remain untreated, despite having all 3 available ranks in the skill to be able to do so automatically post battle.

As far as I am aware there are no other requirements than having the sub-talent, a wound being present on a party member of minor-moderate-major degree(including self), and the battle ending for it to activate.

UPDATE: As it turns out Treatment is only working if you are the party leader and possess the talent. Otherwise it will not work if you are a party member and not the leader, despite the talent making no mention of this requirement.

  [Event] Theft in Dormeho
Posted by: Chaos - 08-03-2020, 04:16 PM - Forum: Sigrogana - No Replies

Dormeho has played the unwilling host to Black Beast attacks for quite some time, to the point where every denizen knows the exact procedure upon the sighting of these mysterious monstrosities. There is much room for chaos in these violent times, but thankfully, such actions are few and far between.

This time, however, the port town was the stage of a new crime.

When the Black Beasts struck during the night, citizens and visitors immediately took to shelter wherever they could; some to homes, a few to the shops, and others to Herman's Inn. It was at this very Inn that a Heist occurred.

A mysterious group, known only as the Unseen Hand, utilized the chaos brought by the Black Beasts to breach into the Inn, and shortly after, absconded into the sea with bags of stolen goods. The only sign left of their passing was a Calling Card-- a vague declaration of the 'justice' that the thieves seek.

With this larcenous act completed, the defenders of the Empire-- and those in pursuit of truth and justice-- begin to investigate....

[OOC: A robbery has occurred within Dormeho! Details are sparse at this time, but there will be a small event occurring soon, where players can get to the bottom of what truly happened at Herman's Inn!]
