Video Matador Stance Know More Pain
Posted by: Perdition - 11-17-2020, 03:40 AM - Forum: Balance Fu - Replies (4)

https://gyazo.com/b354134ed943818ba4acf2688010008f

Currently if you use Matador stance with Know No Pain you take MORE damage than if you don't have it up. In my opinion, old Matador stance didn't even need to be nerfed, but for it to actually make you take more damage with it active is ridiculous. If it can't be reverted, at the very least just remove the bit about it stripping your armor and replacing it with some weird pseudo-armor. Just have it give or take no armor at all. Still, I think the better course of action would be returning Matador to how it worked before the nerf, as it's meant to be a tanking stance. Cobra stance aids evasion builds with snake dancer, I see no reason why Matador stance shouldn't give tanks a small armor buff like it did before.

  Hope - Spirit Evoker (Youkai)
Posted by: Fern - 11-17-2020, 02:16 AM - Forum: Approved Characters - Replies (3)

Applicable BYOND Key: Outer Science

Character Name: Hope

Request Type: Character Item Concept

Request Details: The Spirit Evoker would be (conceptually) a magical gun capable of 'storing' Youkai inside it. When the trigger is pulled, it would never fire an actual bullet, instead summoning a Youkai of the Summoner's choice towards that particular direction. The firearm would have a special property to it that makes Evoke Abilities (the Youkai attacks performed by the Summoner) be less taxing on the user's focus. On paper, this property is given to it by a Mana Crystal that helps supplement the focus needed to perform the skill.

The (summoning fluff) visual animation for summoning Youkai would be glass shards scattering upon pulling the trigger, accompanied by the noise of a mirror breaking before the Youkai manifests in the direction the Spirit Evoker had been aimed at. If it were necessary to summon Youkai in quick succession, the gun would be repeatedly "fired" accordingly.

Its name is inspired by two terms associated with the Grand Summoner promotion class (the Spirit Well and Evoke Master abilities, in particular.)

The gun would not be impossible to replicate, on paper. Anyone with the right understanding of magic and Youkai should be able to make something similar.

I'll be upfront and say this has inspiration from the Persona summoning method in Persona 3. Although, it's obviously not triggered by pointing the gun to your head and making the creature appear by giving yourself a near-death feeling. (See: https://youtu.be/eb6fW0Gx5WU)

Reason why you are making this request (if applicable): It's a cool idea (to me) that I feel I'd have fun roleplaying. About 3 OOC years ago, this character roleplayed summoning by firing blanks before the Youkai would come out, mostly for showing off rather than them actually coming out of a gun made for it. I feel that it would be more smooth if it wasn't all that fake, which is why I'm making this request/application.

Roleplay & Lore supporting your request: Hope is a Summoner who, as of this moment, has 24 Youkai contracts. She is adept when it comes to the Youkai arts and would eventually look into the idea of spicing up her evoking skills. I have been previously informed by two different GMs that it should be fine to store Youkai within magic cards and a golden box, the latter of which was approved with the context that it was an illusionist summoner, but the idea of a gun having them is relatively different compared to these which is a huge part of why I have written this. I can provide screenshots of my conversations with the aforementioned GMs if requested. Here are screenshots of Hope's companion menu in-game:

I'm willing to make changes to the concept if requested!

  New Materials usage
Posted by: Shujin - 11-16-2020, 04:13 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (2)

This might be me being stupid cause I haven't played this game in half a year buuuut.

Is there actually a use for the new threads/materials currently?

from what I gathered by testing around and reading is:
-Can't spawn on random items
-You can not make material kits out of them.
-You can use them in crafts for...Only 4 low levels items (Whynsfelt, Roughspun tunic, wisp cloak and armor of nails)
-all "Plus" items can't even select any material on them upon creation.

So, are they actually unusable outside of those 4 Chest items? There are probably some recipes I didn't find yet at least, right? Is Ninja armor among that?

Edit: Okay I found the Elemental Gis/shoes/adorements. But question still stands

  Anchor Edge and Regalia
Posted by: Perdition - 11-16-2020, 03:39 AM - Forum: Suggestions - Replies (3)

Currently when you use an Anchor Edge that is regalia'd, if you attack it shows the default Anchor Edge sprite extending and recalling. Is there any way to change this to reflect the regalia's icon?

  Custom Arena QoL/enhancement
Posted by: Shujin - 11-15-2020, 12:37 PM - Forum: Suggestions - No Replies

I keep it brief. I want cat statues to get some different functions that would make the use of them so much more appealing.

  1. Custom Spawn point location configurable for each party/player slot
  2. Have the range from which you can set the size of the cat statue go into negative as well
  3. I would like it, if we could make bigger battle maps like in spacey dungeons, if you decorate them currently they can often feel small especially in 4 v 4s. (I often try to make things like a forest, or some areas with bridges with more narrow paths that would change your playstyle a bit, or simply "Two forts" with alternative objectives, but I certainly lack space for that.)
  4. Would it be possible to open/close doors in battle, that aren't locked? preferably only when right next to it.

These changes would allow creating a lot more crazy and creative battle maps.

2. might need elaboration as to why that's important:
Currently, you can only place a cat statue at the bottom left of any arena you want to make. In theory thats okay, but it behaves strangely if you have for example 2 battle maps close to each other (in my case when I was trying to build an arena with many different themed battlegrounds)

What happens is that the player that starts the PvP match, will use the map closest to that player, in tiles. Meaning even though their icons are in the middle of the arena they wanted to fight in, its possible that they get spawned to the arena right above them.

If I could use negative values for the arena x and y-axis, then I could arrange the statues in a way, where this wouldn't happen anymore, and people can safely initiate the combat without awkwardly standing in a different area than they tried to fight on.

Anko - B Class Illusion Invocation
Posted by: Mr.SmileGod - 11-15-2020, 07:50 AM - Forum: Approved Characters - Replies (1)

Applicable BYOND Key - DispensingFreedom.jpg

Character Name - Anko (Papilion)

Request Type - Uhh... Character ability?

Request Details -  The creation (preferred) or discovery (more expected) of a B class invocation illusion spell. The effects would be, unlike Aposemagika, focused in a smaller area, but for much more potent effect. To combat the usage of Earth magic to dispel an illusion, the invocation would be used on a person, object, location, etc to cloak them in an illusion so potent that only true effort would be able to dispel it, rather than a weak Earth spell or dispelling technique being able to do such. Roughly requiring D class Earth invocation magic at the time of casting, and possibly growing weaker over the span of one or two days to the point of only requiring magic on par with Magaisendo, at which point the spell would wear off on its own. One realistically wouldn't be able to pull this off in a real fight, and its effects wouldn't be suited for one anyway.

Rough estimate for the FP cost would be about 150, so... a little less than half of my character's basic reserves, though wouldn't require upkeep until it fades naturally and has to be recast.
The chants for this spell:

"Fleeting colors of the abyss..."

"Untainted by the soil's truth..."

"Replace reality with my will."

Reason why you are making this request (if applicable) - Illusion magic has a known weakness, and a Papilion that has been around for a very long time (one of the longest-running Papilion characters that I know of) would likely be looking into a way around this serious weakness if they were actually invested in their racial potential.

Roleplay & Lore supporting your request - Earth weakness exists, people use it a lot. Baikai exists, that'd probably be on the list of places Anko'd look into first. Aposemagika is proof of illusion invocations existing, and is inspiration for the first line of the actual chant. It wouldn't be a complete immunity to earth, of course, but require more effort than just tossing a rock. Past that, I don't really know what to put here.

  Forum Reputation Is Silly
Posted by: Slydria - 11-14-2020, 10:25 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (19)

Okay. This isn't gonna be a particularly serious thread because at the end of the day, this is a silly feature of the forums to begin with (which is kinda the problem I think.)

So forum reputation is just a number of how many people say "yay" vs how many say "nay"... Buuuut the problem is a lot of people are giving people +1s or -1s for reasons like "you're cute", "trying to balance out negative rep", "this is stupid" and most of all [no comment]

And then there's stuff like this where two people can list the exact same thing but it's in green or red:

Why do we even have this??? It feels so arbitrary and I frankly don't really wanna moderate on whether the internet points you gave/took away are valid, I'd rather there just not be points, especially when they don't determine whether the things someone says has merit or not. A person with -10 rep can make a good point while a person with +150 can say something profoundly stupid. At best, it may make people feel good about having good boy points and at worst it can be used to demerit someone you don't like and make them feel less special?

Thread rating (1-5 stars) is also doubly pointless I feel for similar reasons.

So I guess ultimately two things, we either take it more seriously and slap down some guidelines to this. Probably something along the lines of:

1) You must include a comment.
2) Do not give good or bad reputation simply because you like or dislike the person.
3) The comment you include should be about their post. (e.g. I think this person made some good points here. I think this argument is faulty.)
4) The comment you include should be explanatory. (Don't just include "wow what an idiot" or "is this guy serious? or "i like this", this isn't helpful.)

Or (preferably to me) Dev takes it out entirely, assuming that's possible.

  Lunar Lunatism
Posted by: Perdition - 11-14-2020, 06:37 PM - Forum: Balance Fu - Replies (1)

I have a vampire thread up but I want to talk specifically about Lunar Lunatism because I think this potentially can tie the whole Vampire race together in a meaningful way. I mentioned before that the Vampire changes make the race more focused on basic attacking. By far, you receive most of the benefits (and negatives that come with those) if you're a proficient basic attacker. Life Drain is there for mages, however you have no way to build essence with it. Using Banquet is the only way to manage essence mid battle, and critting with it acts as a psuedo fleur.

I also mentioned previously that trying to build for basic attacking as well as taking SAN for the benefits of lunar lunatism is near impossible if you want your build to be proficient. However to stay in line with the way every other race works, I don't think making it scale off anything other than SAN is ideal. So it dawned on me that a compromise could work similar to how the Corbie racials work. Activating Lunar Lunatism can give you a buff to your hit and crit while it's active, that scales off of your SAN. This can compensate for some stats needed for basic attacking that might be sacrificed to stack SAN to make use of lunar lunatism to its fullest.

By limiting this buff to lunar lunatism it doesn't just make Vampire a free pass for extra basic attacking stats, but it also lets you take advantage of the LVs of the charm and hesitation it inflicts which would otherwise be very lackluster with low SAN. To make Mage classes less neglected by the Vampire rework, the crit buff would also be a buff to crit rate for lightning spells, and mages can always use a bit of extra hit for overcoming evasion procs. This would also further the state of lunar lunatism being described as the state of a vampire going 'all out' and make it a much more fearsome ability. However with the weaknesses that come with Crest being active I don't see it being overbearing, just worthy of the trade off.

  Basic Attacks with guns update
Posted by: Moku203 - 11-14-2020, 04:37 PM - Forum: Suggestions - Replies (2)

I don't know if this would be possible, but would there be a way to tweak the way Gun type weapons interact with basic attack skills?

As an example I'll never hit higher than 1 using Capture, Pinball Strike, or Warp Strike. it hinders my build quite harshly by making a very powerful tool practically worthless.

My suggestion would be somehow making a separate blunt damage proc for guns when used for the case of Melee type skills (IE you use rubber bullets, or smash them with the base of your gun to knock them out)

Though I am absolutely worthless when it comes to coding so I don't know how easy nor how hard this would be to do.

EDIT: I have acutally just come up with a possible idea, you could add a Rubber Bullets trait that when toggled on will make gun weapons never kill, allowing us gunners to get a mob down to 1 HP and then move in for a capture, though that wouldn't fix the Warp Strike and Pinball Strike problems...

Harassment and GM Transparency - An Address
Posted by: Balthie - 11-14-2020, 04:35 AM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (6)

I shall open this by allowing you to cut straight to the meat of the issue, skipping past my foreword should you wish.
This public statement is going to be split into two distinct but deeply intertwined topics-

If you are concerned with the state of harassment and hostility in the community, and how we seek to address it moving forwards, skip to the next bolded line.
If you are concerned with hearing how the GM team operate, further potential changes, and some more personal thoughts on recent threads, those will be contained in the next post.
I'd ask that you don't skip the section on harassment, as it constitutes an adjustment on policy that affects nearly every last one of you.

At the time of posting, I intend to spend a few hours in the comments of this thread, responding to things as best I can. Please endeavour to keep your responses polite, respectful towards others, and concise. I shall do the same.

With that out of the way...

"This community is full of fine people. Good souls. And I understand they are on edge for countless reasons. What I pray is people will cease burning bridges, and instead mend them. To give each other comradery." -sic Stenzio, Opinions on the State of Opinions

For the best part of this year, I have been apart from our community perhaps more than I ever have been in the past, even factoring in my relative and intentionl anonymity before applying for GMship. I'll save you all the sordid details- 2020 comes for us all -now that I am in a secure enough place physically to be fully back in action. But as the old curse goes...
May you live in interesting times.
During my absense from public, it well seems as though problems that we as a broader community have suffered for years at this point have been given ample space to grow, consume, and fester. Truly, the timing of my return is ideal and horrible in equal measure, each for numerous reasons.

So, accordingly, I'll begin with an apology.
Whilst I've been active in GM discussions during my unwilling hiatus and responding to every administritive private message I've received in the interim, had I been more involved in the community for the past year, perhaps I would have been able to sooner realise just how bad things had become, and been able to interject far earlier. On behalf of my own public inaction, I deeply apologise.

The problems addressed in recent forum threads are far from new though, and some still remain largely unaddressed. They are merely worsening of trends that I can observe and follow the trail of backwards for years, in large part.
I understand some of you may not think of us GMs as part of the community, and I'm sure that all of us being very old players and largely keeping to ourselves doesn't aid in that perception, but we are indeed community members just like yourselves, and it deeply hurts us when we see such a horrible atmosphere as has been prevalent overtake what should well be a tight-knit, collaborative community. And accordingly, we are just as at fault for allowing hostile aspects of the community to go unresolved.

However...
Let's move on to the meat of things, shall we? Enough waxing lyrical about the negatives, let's get to updates, solutions, and solid steps moving fowards.

Ongoing Harassment Within the Community, and Policy Changes Thereupon.

The way we as a larger community have allowed harassment as a very specific issue and hostility as a whole to grow out of control is a topic I've been taking a deeper look into of late, doubly so the past couple days. Even knowing that it was prevalent before going in, I've found myself taken aback by just how many people are truthfully affected by this matter, in ways large or small. Before getting some rest last night, I dropped in on essentially random, unrelated community members, each of whom was able to give me a distinct positive litmus test on quietly held concerns about the way people have been treating one another.

Accordingly, my opening statement is as such...

There are elements of our playerbase that have fostered an evironment of hostility and harassment that directly silences the necessary reporting of problems that need scrutiny, and indirectly brings many others to silence as to avoid becoming a target.

This is a problem that I personally find abhorrent, especially given that it's a problem that each of us can contribute to without meaning to cause active harm. Stenzio's quote speaks to me accordingly; I refuse to believe that the majority of people who perpetuate such an environment do so intentionally, and fundamentally consider you all to have positive goals and intentions.
This is also a problem that we as GMs cannot solve alone. We will need your help as a broader community, even as we actively endeavour to do our best by you all. We have been considering policy changes on this topic for a while now, and intend to work in tandem with you all to better SL2 for us all.

Let's start with things that are definite on the GM end of things. We are willing to consider further suggestions and ideas accordingly, as this is an evolving situation that takes time, but I want to leave no room for doubt on this specific policy change.
We have elected to take on a harsher, zero-tolerance stance on cases of intentional, targetted harassment.
For a long time, we've been relatively hands off with mechanical punishment. Bans don't come frequently, and typically require quite a few- or at least very significant -overstepping of boundaries. Equally so, we have been relatively unable to pursue cases of this that we're aware of which happen behind closed doors.
I won't mince words, since this really needs to settle in.

If we are presented with adequate evidence that any specific person has been exhibiting behaviour of targetted, malicious harassment or hostility at another player or players, and a further investigation corroborates as much, that person will be met with mechanical punishment swiftly, decisively, and thoroughly.

This, however, is not all.
Firstly, we aren't stupid, and we're all well versed in the ways people make an effort to provide terribly thin veils of plausible deniability. Trying to pull the wool over our eyes whilst harming the game experience for other players will not be treated any more kindly than being blatant about it will be.
Secondly, we have long been aware of a repeating pattern whenever people are scrutinized for their actions. Namely, the direction of their friends and compatriots, intentional or otherwise, to harass and bully the initial victim further, or whomever reported the issue. In the past, this has largely happened in discord communities, and thus we've felt it appropriate to watch carefully, but have been largely unable to consider taking action against these people. Going forth, expect this to change. If you take your harassment of others in the community off of the server, we intend to treat such a case as just as much in the community as anything directly in game. This is where I'd like to think better of people- it's natural to want to come to the aid of one's friends, but very often this comes in the form of harming others. The likelihood is that these cases are less intentionally malicious than the initial instances, however, and such will be taken into consideration when we investigate.
Thirdly, the matter of providing evidence when requested. This will largely be touched upon in post two, but is relevant here. In point two, I noted how people who report things often get harassed themselves, intentionally so. Discretion has been and continues to be a distinct concern in harassment cases, and there is a danger when providing logs that we can put existing victims at further risk of hostility.

So. Onto anything that the wider playerbase can do to help us out.
We need to foster together a better atmosphere in which people feel like they can report things without getting dogpiled and strung up. Part of that is on the GM team, but part of that is also on pushing past reluctancy to report problems with negatively affect not only ourselves, but others. Again- I dropped in on near-random people to ask their personal opinions, and got positives. If things aren't reported to the GM team, it becomes very, very difficult to be aware of ongoing situations.

I get it, fully. Nobody wants to be the one to get ostracised for doing a good thing, and it's abominable when it happens. The GM team is more than willing to hear you out privately, keep you secure, and do our best to prevent you getting targetted for doing right by yourself and your fellow player.
It's a vicious cycle of harassment and hostility bullying people into silence, allowing such things to flourish and spread yet further, worsening until the point where nobody feels comfortable with speaking up. The forums have been very busy the past few days, but the number of people who haven't spoken on related topics are very easy to be hidden away and go without regard when they don't feel comfortable to speak.
But this is not the only feasible cycle. Should we make a collective effort to actively and securely present concerns as well as hard infractions, it will at least start to foster an atmosphere in which rotten behaviour is put under the clear light of day... helping people to further feel comfortable voicing their concerns.

You will not be alone in this. This is not a case of "just speak up, lol." The GM team is currently considering methods to better open channels in which people can feel more comfortable in confidentially giving voice to their concerns, and we're making an active effort to workshop things accordingly.
In the interim period, it would be prudent to at the very least note that we are all willing to take private messages from anybody in the community. I personally encourage it. Really, please. I prefer when people come to me directly for things, it's motivating, encouraging, and I always endeavour to respond as soon as I can to work with people quickly and positively.

Ultimately, we feel problems in the community just as you do, and we want to better ourselves collectively just as you do.
I quoted Stenzio's post in the foreword because I admired the positivity underlying it. It's a positivity I often lack, and I shall be taking as much into account- perhaps we all should take a moment to step back, just every now and then, to breathe deeply and reflect on how we impact those around us? Certainly, I will be doing so. We're all beautifully imperfect, after all, yet blessed with the gift of introspection.

if i have to type harassment one more time i think im going to have an aneurysm
