  Single Fleeing
Posted by: Fern - 10-21-2021, 12:57 AM - Forum: Suggestions - Replies (1)

Can we have the ability for characters to individually flee from a PVE or PVP fight, similarly to how in Fire Emblem units suddenly leave the battlefield sometimes?

The way I imagine it'd work is that you only get a "full party flee" if the Party Leader flees.

This would be very fun for events specially.

  4th Class Promo Ideas
Posted by: InsainArcaneBirdbrain - 10-20-2021, 07:42 PM - Forum: Class/Race Ideas - Replies (7)

After a fun discussion with some friends, I decided to come up with some possible 4th promos that would vastly expand the amount of diversity we can take our characters build-wise mechanically. While I know the existing classes need rebalancing, I'd figure that getting these ideas out there might provide some direction that additional promos can go.

Archer - Hunter (Crossbow class with summonable beast allies that each have unique utility akin to engineer bots)

Curate - Druid (Nature based support/healer with a Earth/Wind magic focus.)

Duelist - Spellblade (Combo fighter whose spell attacks augment their basics and vice versa. Think Red Mage from FFXIV with casting/melee combos)

Mage - Dark Bard (Sound/Dark based magic class that use instrument weapons.)

Martial Artist - Grappler (Grapple and throw based class.)

Rogue - Alchemist (Gains benefits to potion use like how Engi does with bombs. AOE support and debuff potion throws. Maybe makes more use of the sorely underused Acid attack?)

Soldier - Paladin (Tanky warrior but with Mercala on their side. More anti-magic oriented compared to BK than physical. They can also have some sword/spear/axe castable Mercana spells.)

Summoner - Youkai Rider (Summons youkai mounts which grant various benefits when ridden such as increase movement speed, flight, etc. Ridden mounts could potentially be disabled through means such as kd or high amounts of damage.)

Feel free to pitch in ideas or refine what I presented here-

  Chimera Tail Aesthetics
Posted by: Pyro - 10-20-2021, 01:25 AM - Forum: Suggestions - Replies (9)

Grant Chimeras access to the Hyattr / Salamandra tail sprites alongside the fishtail.

It's not particularly fitting for a lot of Chimera, and this would allow for more customization options.

I would also like to ask that Chimera be given access to the Salamandra horn sprites. Why? It would be cool.

  Verglas and Skill-Slots
Posted by: Shujin - 10-19-2021, 10:05 AM - Forum: Balance Fu - Replies (9)

Verglas since the rework has a lot higher focus on actually comboing you class-skills and allowed you to pick more than one combo into your aresnal effectively thanks to max skillpoints per skill only being 3.

However, since most of them are reliant on each other to even function, you have a massive Skill-pool size. Even building Wil and Skill you barely have enough for Verglas alone, farless if you go a second class. (I have like 40 skills on two classes and I use a sword FB, meaning I barely even touch their skillpool.)

So I want to suggest a Skill in the Verglas tree, that functions Smiliary to how Engineer deals with their own skill slot problem.

So something like. "Verglas skills only cost 0.5 skill pool slots." If you want to connect that to a condition, sure whatever.. Maybe all Kick skills?
But Skillpool is in my opinion the greatest issue that Verglas as a class has right now, about its functionality which kinda railroads you back into just spamming the most effective options and building more efficiently.

Alternatively one could at least make some of their slot skils 2 SP skills with the second one being just a free sloter, though that barely fights the problem.

The Issues with Glancing Blows / Full Evasion
Posted by: Miller - 10-18-2021, 10:15 PM - Forum: Balance Fu - Replies (5)

I'm not going to lie, this system has way too many issues to be fun to play in, even as someone who enjoys playing heavy CEL investment characters 90% of the time.

So I'm going to address the major individual points of why this system is so frustrating to deal with on both sides.

FULL EVASION IS POLARIZING

You either have enough hit or you don't. Glancing Blows ignores a fair amount of on-hits and statuses while completely missing will give the person dodging 100% DR. On the other side of things, if you have enough hit to avoid playing the evade game they'll end up melting like butter unless they're abusing external DRs from class skills or equipment or end up stat balling enough to not care.

Either evasion is godly or it's awful. There's almost never an in between unless you run into someone with one or two evasion ignoring skills with a hefty cooldown.

GLANCING BLOWS ODDS
[Image: WgNDrUg.png]

As represented here, these are the current hit rates you'll get while operating under the current system of glancing blows as it functions on live; what's immediately obvious is that you MUST have 80% or higher hit to reliably avoid glancing on your opponent. This encourages players to max out their hit to the maximum their bases/buff cap will allow them, often putting an emphasis on high base SKI races and an even higher emphasis on the enchant Blessed or Bloodhunt.

Several suggestions have been floating around to make it so if you only miss the first roll / then hit the second, you'll get a glance and that's generally agreeable with me. It'd give you your projected hit rate rather than have a MASSIVE drop off below 75% hit.

GLANCING BLOWS AVOIDING INFLICTS
Avoiding status inflicts on glancing blows is infuriating to say the least, this puts an extra layer of 'Status Resistance' on top of the stat that already exists means that you must first pass a hit check twice in a row and then land a status inflict. Not to mention that this also applies to on-critical effects such as Fleur, making it doubly frustrating if you're someone who hasn't maxed out their hit beyond 80% hit rate.

A simple fix would simply be to do away with the ignore inflicts half of glancing blows and instead boost status resistance by a flat amount based off of armor type.

SKILL STAT TAX
SKI is the first stat to become borderline mandatory to have at least 56-60 scaled with this update thanks to the presence of full evasion. Other stats which are considered mandatory such as VIT only require a very small investment that you can reasonably dock if you have a fair amount of STR and/or SAN or have alternative stats to use for your damage reduction. I frankly personally never go beyond 20 base VIT unless I want the extra bulk, but with SKI I don't have the same luxury as I am required to go to 60 scaled to have a reasonable base to boost with enchants/buffs.

This limits the amount of stats you can invest in other stats by a severe margin.

Though another point that I feel goes woefully undernoticed is the fact that SKI was never a dump stat due to the inclusion of skill slots. The only characters that could reasonably dump SKI were rogues/humans or classes that generally don't use that many skill slots.

Buffs/Debuffs
Due to the nature of the buff cap and how debuffs interact with it, it's generally more worthwhile to overcap on hit/evade to lessen the impact of debuffs. This creates an obvious powergap between combos that include a class that provides a fair amount of debuffs/buffs and combos that do not include a class that has an abundance of these debuffs or buffs.

This is an issue that unfortunately cannot be band-aided by giving more buffs/debuffs to other classes unless the amount between classes is homogenized and have little to no conditions or simply have none of these buffs/debuffs to begin with. The reason for this is because this would encourage people to focus on classes that provide the most bonuses towards hit/evade and having it be more standardized would be the same as having none at all.

With the previous system, only basic hitters had to play around with these.
Blind
This status alone with how it currently functions is a nightmare. As long as you land an inflict, you'll be playing around with a 44% chance to glance regardless of CEL investment. I don't think I need to state how awful this is to deal with. A flat -hit value would be much much more bearable.

It's Almost Impossible To Balance Around (Eventmin)
A bit of a hyperbole but, due to the polarizing nature of full evasion being present in a system, there is no singular hit rate/evade that you can give to a mob to make them fair in a PvE encounter. Some players will play a dodgy that has 150 evade base but won't have the evasion buffs present to dodge a mob with around 220 hit. If the mobs hit is too low? Their damage will drastically decrease to an overwhelming degree making it a cakewalk if they can avoid them or a nightmare if they can't. This also applies to the evasion side of the deal, most players are packing 210% to 250%+ hit due to it being borderline required, so dodgy mobs need to have around 180 evade to dodge the average player. But not everyone focuses hard enough to min-max hit and can end up missing/glancing 75% of the time as a result.

  Training Arc When
Posted by: Shadbase - 10-18-2021, 07:10 PM - Forum: Suggestions - Replies (2)

A simple request: Boost "Training" spars from 5% of the EXP bar to 10% or 15%.

There's no real reason to do them at all, or even take the talents for it, except for flavor. Not only that - even with this boost or any other boost, they can't be spammed to hell and back easily because there's still a stamnia tax on them.
I just want to have it be more meaningful to take as a talent, since in concept the idea is SUPER cool but doesn't seem like it has much love.

  [QUESTS] Pandora's Quests
Posted by: Fern - 10-18-2021, 01:28 AM - Forum: The Great Six - Replies (1)

(Please read this post if you need more context.)

There's a Quest Board in the House of Dreams. It's black, with a title at the top reading "Pandora's Quests".

The board is written in a glowing white text that seems to shift and shimmer of its own accord.

It sometimes offers different types of work.

OOC NOTES

Every now and then, I'll be posting Quests in this thread. They can be different types of jobs, ranging from combat to investigation or small, casual things. Some of them can be impromptu mini-events that are available to the public as well.

Some of the events will require sign-ups and others won't. Some you can do during your free time without needing me to be around constantly.

If you want to see if you can start a quest, ping the event runner behind it in the #event-discussion channel of the main SL2 Discord. A few things to note are that there will often be a minimum of participants for those kind of missions to be able to begin the quest (usually 4 at the very minimum unless stated otherwise) and that you can only ping the event runner for it when their status in Discord is set to "QUESTS AVAILABLE." If the Event Runner is asked privately if they're up to starting a ping-quest and they accept, that's also fine.

Please note that they will likely only do the first Quest they were pinged for (that day) if they're available, and whether they will do multiple in a day or not is their choice!

That said, I'll link this thread in #event-announcements in the SL2 Discord each time a new Quest(s) appears. If you're not in the Discord, you can just check the Quest Board in the House of Dreams in-game. Have fun!

Note: You MUST ping the corresponding Event Runner in #events-discussion if you're joining a Quest that needs sign-ups! Please be VERY SPECIFIC about which one you're signing up for even if there's only one, as I'm often busy and can forget things easily.

Lastly, after some discussions, I have made the decision to restrict Main Scenario Quest events from my plotlines to my event server. If you are looking to participate or see what the gist of it is about, you have to join the server!

Discord Server link: https://discord.gg/RRf3ZqpqYh

MOST QUESTS LISTED HERE ARE PERMANENT AND REPEATABLE UNLESS STATED OTHERWISE, SUCH AS IT SAYING 'TEMPORARY' IN THE TITLE. AS FAR AS SIGN-UP QUESTS GO, YOU CAN'T SIGN UP TO THE SAME ONE MULTIPLE TIMES IN A SHORT TIME, YOU HAVE TO WAIT ONE WEEK MINIMUM!
THE REWARDS FOR QUESTS MIGHT ALSO CHANGE AS TIME PASSES.

EVENT DUNGEONS

[Image: gate_icon.png] Some quests will have a gate icon next to them. This gate icon means that the quest will take place inside an Event Dungeon.

In these dungeons, your party(ies) generally moves across area blocks that might have enemies or hidden loot within. Usually, there's an entrance area that serves as a safe zone with a House Innkeeper, where you can't be attacked or chased by any enemies. Sometimes the quest objective is also located in one of these area blocks, and you must get to it then return to the safe zone without being defeated.

Potential dungeon loot is listed in the quest's information, and whenever a party opens the chest, everyone in it gets the item(s). You must clear the enemies in that block or they won't let you open the chest!

Each time a party is defeated, they are brought back to the dungeon's safe zone, and more enemies might appear.

DUNGEON DIFFICULTIES

Dungeon quests will have a difficulty attached to them. Each difficulty has a base reward, and losing battles in the dungeon does not change the difficulty. These are only obtained when the quest is fully finished. It is worth reminding you can generally Legend Extend before you receive your reward.
  • EASY: 1,000 Murai and 100,000 EXP.
  • NORMAL: 2,500 Murai and 300,000 EXP.
  • HARD: 5,000 Murai and 500,000 EXP.
  • LEGEND: 10,000 Murai and 1,000,000 EXP, 1 Legend Ink. In some circumstances, special IC information might be part of the reward.

(WARNING: Legend difficulty quests will require the participants to consent to potential injury/maiming. Death might be a possibility in some circumstances, but will still be within reason.)

RANK SYSTEM

Quest completion results will be ranked based on some factors:
  • D = A party has been defeated by a massive Exactor.
  • C = A party has been defeated twice.
  • B = Fulfilled quest objective, but only one or no chests have been found.
  • A = Fulfilled quest objective and at least two chests have been found.
  • S = Full clear (as in all enemies defeated), all items have been found and the quest's objective has been finished. Additionally, no parties have suffered defeat.
If a quest receives a C or D rank, participants may only receive Easy Mode rewards regardless of dungeon difficulty, and will only be able to open one more chest. Otherwise, the rank system is mostly for fluff.

EXACTOR
[Image: boss_icon.png] Quests with a skull and crossbones icon may have a chance for a menacing shadow to appear. This foe will spawn in a random area block and will begin chasing players when it spots them. It is extremely strong and while killable, unlikely to lose.

You do not gain anything for killing the Exactor, and losing to it will automatically force the completion rank to be D regardless of how many losses you've actually experienced. If you fight an Exactor in Legend difficulty, if your party is defeated by it, you will not be immediately summoned back to the safe zone and a short scene with risks will occur. A 1d4 is rolled to determine a victim, and then a 1d100 will decide the severity of the attack. Below, you can find roll estimates:

Roll 1-50 = Heavy injury of some kind.
Roll 51-95 = Maiming of some kind.
Roll 97-100 = Character will be killed.
YOU CAN FLEE THE EXACTOR WITHOUT NEEDING RNG, REFER TO THE FLEEING SECTION BELOW
YOU DON'T GAIN ANYTHING FOR KILLING IT
These risks don't apply to quests that don't have the Legend difficulty.

MYSTERIOUS ENEMY

At times, a special opponent might appear and try to ruin your mission. You don't want that, do you...?

FLEEING IN DUNGEONS

You can flee mob encounters as you would normally, by having your party leader move to the border of the battlefield and using the Flee button. In cases where a boss enemy is present, you must have all your (conscious) party members move to the border and RP fleeing, in which case the fight will be ended and you will have the chance to ICly retreat. However, each time you flee, more enemies will appear in the dungeon.

Boss-tagged enemies have a skull icon next to their name.

MIMICS

Sometimes, the chest you open will be a powerful mimic. You are able to strike chests if you fear the mimic, but one of two things can happen: if it's a normal chest, the item amount will be cut in half, and if it's a mimic, they'll take damage at the start of the fight.

QUEST TYPES

Some quests might have a particular system type. Below, you can find a list of the current types:

  • Elimination: Defeat a specific enemy. In some cases, this might be a boss with more than one health pool. They might relocate each time a HP threshold is met until it's fully defeated, sometimes! Or sometimes you might just have to one-and-done it.
  • Armageddon: Defeat every enemy in the dungeon.
  • Break the Seal: You must do a puzzle in the dungeon to retrieve an item. The seal is located in a random block, and you must make all mirror pillars point towards its direction to unlock the chest. The mirrors are hidden across the dungeon, and a party can choose how they want to rotate them.
  • Protector: You have to rescue someone (or something) in the dungeon. Find the objective and bring it back to the safe zone. If the objective loses all its HP before reaching the safe zone, it will either end up in a random area block or in specific cases, failure of the quest. Generally, parties will be limited to 3 characters max so that they can slot in the objective as a fourth party member.

TIME LIMIT

There's an undisclosed time limit to each quest. Try to not waste too much time goofing around, or you're getting a C rank!

REMEMBER THAT YOU MUST GET BACK TO THE SAFE ZONE TO ICLY LEAVE THE DUNGEON AND FULLY COMPLETE A QUEST! YOU CAN ONLY RECEIVE THE REWARD WHEN YOU LEAVE. YOU CAN CHOOSE TO STAY LONGER TO RISK LOOKING FOR LOOT IF YOU'D LIKE.
